I thought someone might ask at some point. There is an Italian soda made by San Pellegrino called Chinotto. Chinotto is a small citrus cousin of the orange. The soda has a sweet citrus taste followed by a bitter slap in the face. You either love or hate the stuff. I love it. The particular soda you see is a variant called Chinottissimo. My sister saw it in a tiny grocery store in Austin. It has a slightly less bitter smack than the Pellegrino, and has some fruity aftertaste overtones. It's yummy. Now you know. Keep your eyes peeled. If you ever try it let me know what you think.

So my work area was getting beyond a joke. I had boxes of just 1 or 2 parts all over the place so since I was still waiting for paint to strip I set to on saturday and finally finished yesterday. This is before, And this is after, These contain nothing but vw kits I managed to get everything that was on the couch sorted into one organiser drawer, and that alone filled a bin bag with sprues. I never actually thought about how much waste there is with modelling, but it was an eye opener for sure. I have another of the brown drawer to be delivered that will be getting filled with my sand paper, tools and resin parts/extras. At some point i the near future I'll be building some shelves above the bench so I can get the rest of the stuff off the floor.

Okay gents. I'm now living solo, and this is the bridge of the new Command Center. I am able to dump the paintbooth out the window into the bushes. I have the Captain's chair right in the center of the room for optimal stereo separation. The stereo is remote control, and there are two 5 disc carousels, so I really don't have to get up for ages. This should get me back into action post haste.

I've done a bit of work on my living room/work shop the last few days. After my recent buying spree I had run out of space yet again so to help fix this i got some cheap shelving. This gave me the problem of where to put it as floor space is at a premium in my flat. I decided to put it on top of my workbench as how many of us really use more than a ten inch area anyway, lol. I've run led lights around the inside but it was still a little dull so to brighten them up I added chrome heating tape under the shelves, and I've got a desk lamp for checking body work for dips as i find the leds just light it all the same, while you can see the low spots with an ordinary bulb. I've got some pvc skirting to go along the bottom to prevent parts getting under the shelves and will be sealing the bottom edge with duct tape. I would use permanent sealant but I might want to move it someday and using tape will stop the desk getting damaged. It also gives me a raised area to put parts out of the way to set and to make tool easier to find. I have all my brush paints in the top 2 drawers to my left and most of my smaller tools in the next one down. I have my fillers, thinners and glues in the next one and the bottom one is all wheel sets. To my right I have another shelf unit that holds a load more wheels leftover from kits sorted into sets or resin sets. To the right of this is my resin bodies and this shelf is going to be full soon but I wont be buying many more kits unless its ones still on my wish list, but to be honest I've been very lucky recently and found multiples of most of them and a few I didn't know exited. I've still got to sort out my started kits and decide which I really want to finish and which can be broken up. I know theres some that just need paint or assembling so I hope to get those finished, which leads to my lack of storage space again. I'm actually thinking to get rid of my couch and replace it with a chair so I can fit in a display unit of some kind, which will probably be more of the blue shelves covered in plastic sheet as I really dont care what they look like cos hey, its a workshop, lol. I've got all my porsche kits on the shelf above the bench and most of my vw kits on the one above that, with some USA boxes at the edge of the bench. On my bench theres a couple of small drawer units with my brakes and detail stuff, and leftover kit engines and parts I thought worth keeping seperate from the general leftover parts box. Under my bench is all USA kits with an open space I'm putting plastic trays on slides for sand paper and stuff, and there are more on the shelves to the right. On the lower shelfs to my right is mostly japanese and euro stuff and larger USA. To the left of drawer unit is my trucks and larger kitsboxes. I'll probably be moving this shelf to below my front window as its currently in front of the heater (turned off) and it can be useful in scotland, lol. On the other side of the room I have my spraybooth set up below the window at the side of the house so i dont spit paint fumes over peoples cars. Under this in the cupboards is my spray paints on the right and my air brush is going in the smaller one with the compressor on the bottom shelf. Now I just need to learn to use it and clean it. Before I use my booth again I am going to put cling film over the lights to make them super easy to clean, just change the cling film and your done, lol.

You guys usually only see my work bench while i am building something, and it is usually a bit of a mess, especially lately trying to do a large scale build, and the usual monthly builds. So today , after finishing my 1/12 Camaro, i cleaned it all up, and put away all the spare parts. Now, onto the next build..

At this point I'm just wondering why you never joined a scale model forum in the first place Pete. WOW!!!! That looks so neat and tidy!! Thanks for sharing!

The bench is only neat so I could shoot a few pics...I just never really thought about it. Joining a forum that is, not a lot of time to devote. Generally takes me about 3 months to do a build like the Cobra but...Being as I'm currently between jobs...3.5 weeks, start to finish. Thats unheard of for me. Glad you like Joe!! Pete
OH, just an aside here... I spent about 2 hrs today shooting pics of my models...LOL so I have some fodder for the forum here.

It takes me between 4-9 months to complete a build. Cars usually fall under the 4-5 month range and aircraft take me in the upwards of 9-10 months depending on how far I want to deck it all out. Photography is also time consuming for me as well. Forums....I don't have as much time as some do but I just like talking to other people in the hobby. I mean think about it.....how many people do we know personally that we actually see that build anymore?

Trumpeter Kit, Item #02231 1/32 scale A-7E Corsair II. Has small # of PE components as well. Photography isn't my strong suit. (Never can get the lighting right) I personally know a dozen or so who build/compete regularly like I do. Don't think many (If any of em) are on any forums. Its funny Joe, model building is a solitary endeavor but...Us model builders are very social people...LOL...This whole Covid 19 flop has put a real damper on the model scene here. Already two local shows cancelled. And the hobby shops buttoned up for who knows how long. Some are beginning to run out of supplies to build with. Had a friend of mine who needed some flat black paint in a bottle. Asked me if I had extra... I put it in my mail box, he rolled over and picked it up the same day. Time is always the enemy Joe, main reason I don't ever wear a watch. Pete

Hi Pete, plenty of shows over here have been cancelled as well. They usually provide an opportunity to grab a few things at discounted prices, see what's new and catch up with a few of the regulars. Hope you don't mind my asking but what are all the plaques on the wall for?
|
|
|
Post by pete on Jun 7, 2020 10:03:30 GMT -7
The plaques on the wall are awards from local area( IPMS and Canadian model shows I have placed at over the years. I do love a good deal on plastic/detail supplies you get at show venues. Allows me to continue to grow the stash...Much to my wifes chagrin . I have a few more trophys around the entrance to the shop... Didn't have any place else to put em so did this with em. I do manage to keep in touch with a few of the regulars I compete with so, it's all good. Pete

As I can't edit the above post showing my cabin. It's fully insulated, double glazed windows and heated for our puny winter temperatures.
