Thanks you guys. I got the gray primer ready this morning and shot my attempt at a marble effect on. I heard on the radio this morning that it's National Scribble Day today so it's fitting. icon_giggles We'll be jumping from here on the rest of the assembly and camo scheme.

Very convincing camo, you would struggle to see it on an overcast/wet day

Very convincing camo, you would struggle to see it on an overcast/wet day Thanks Les. Actually this will be the base for the camo pattern. The object is to apply a very thin layer of the camo pattern over this as to give it a deeper effect.
Referring to Britt Vallot's Hellcat once again with a much tighter marble effect than mine.
and then onto base coats of color:
Still yet more color:
more layers of different colors:
after "cals" or masking.......seeing the effect come along in layers?
and some chipping....it all adds up in the finishing shots:

That is some awesome work Joe! Thanks Leon.
Well to be perfectly honest with you I couldn't resist and I went back over it again in a much tighter pattern with my Badger 150 after not using it for the past 5 years. I'm actually a lot happier with the results this time around..

Quick question, do you know how the chipping is done? I'd like to try it on my truck and trailer chassis'

Quick question, do you know how the chipping is done? I'd like to try it on my truck and trailer chassis' This is one method that I've found that works : www.youtube.com/watch?v=59dge1Cqsnk
The other method involves a silver lead pencil but I'll cover that when I get to that point in the weathering process there Les.

Thanks buddy. The camouflage and the fit of the whole front glass gondola/ cockpit is what the hard points are on this one. Makin' my way through this one slowly.............

Ok gang. I spent the better half of 3 hours this morning applying paint. I already know I'm going to hear it from somebody because I've been telling myself all morning long that I must like to make things difficult. I have applied these colors in patches rather than go over most of the bird with the predominant color. I made the mistake of applying the predominant color once on my Stuka and I didn't much care for it because when I went back over the base color with the second camo color it looked to thick. So I opted to do things this way. I've also opted not to put the cockpit on just yet. I'll get to that in due time and in my own fashion...……..the hard way. I do like the benefits of the marble pattern and will more than likely continue that trend. There is a couple of touch ups that I need to do between the camo colors but I do like this way even though it is time consuming. I spend more time masking than I've spent on any other area of the model.

In the last pic you can really see the effect the marbling has on the paint, neat trick Joe

Looks good Joe. I don't know much about aircraft, so I am trying to learn here.
It is interesting what you are doing, and I am starting to see how it all comes together.
Really neat. Carry on sir....

Thanks Les. I have been watching and learning over the course of the last few years while I've been working on auto builds. I just felt like I needed improvement on my aircraft paint jobs. Now I feel a little more confident that I can pull a better looking paint job off on them. This is but one trick that I learned and will not be turning back to the old way.
Thanks Leon and Mark.
Mark: I do love building historical things and I really have a love for WWII birds (especially the Luftwaffe stuff). I just want to be able to do them justice in my builds.
Got some more done this morning. Almost ready for the painting the lighter undersides of her after some more color border touch up:

Thanks Les. I don't know how long it's gonna take me to get through with this one but I am having fun once again with aircraft. Honestly though, I can't wait to get started on that 1980 Malibu project that I've got in the loft.

That paint looks great Joe.. Thanks Dale. And don't worry...I'll be coming right on back to auto modeling after this. I may stray to aircraft here and there but I've found my niche in the auto world.

Looks great Joe, you nailed that paintwork. 'Preciate it Bruce.
Sorry for the absence this last week folks. I took off two days from work this week. Had problems with one of my teeth that gave me problems in the 7-8 on the pain scale range. Went to the dentist and he gave me these antibiotics that reeked havoc on my stomach wise and I had that "disconnected" feeling. Really sucked. I took two days off from work and pretty much slept both days.
BUT...………….I'm back in the saddle again my fine feathered friends.
Did ALOT of work today on this bird. The friggin' landing gear legs broke loose from their mounting and I had to re-glue those back on. face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak I've pretty much completed the camo scheme for this aircraft and have to say that this one goes down as one of the most difficult paint jobs that I've done yet with all the black basing, marbling and masking. Sheesh!!! With all that being said and aside from needing to paint the back of the engine nacelle a burnt black here's where we are now:
and the bottom side:
after the burnt black application on the engine nacelle we'll be off to completing the nose section and applying a gloss coat! My FAVORITE part.
