Thanks fellas! Les...The boot material is from some detail wire that is solid core and scales out to about 3/4 inch dia. heater hose...As for the Hemi style boots, I use the boot material that comes with Gofer racings prewired distributors. Its too big for boot material but works for my hemi style boots. I cut thin rings of the material and then stretch it over the boot material. Its' like putting a condom on a gnats you know what but it looks pretty convincing when done. I'll do a tutorial on the subject with the next installment so you can see how I put em together.

Holy smokes!!! a 1000 views. I better get my butt moving on this build!!! Unfortunately, I have nothing new to share today. Still waiting on a new fluid tip for my Grex airbrush. But!!! I do have a bit of a tutorial on Hemi style plug wire boots. Les asked how I make em. I said I would post a how too for him (and anyone else whos interested) Soo...Here goes: Its not the cleanest or tightest finished product but, it does the job. I start with some plug wire boot material from one of Gofer racings pre wired distributors. The material is far too large for proper boots but works for my purpose here. In this pic you can see the gofer material at the top of the frame. The proper boot material at the bottom and a small boot already cut and placed on the end of a piece of wire. You will also see a small ring of gofers material just under the large piece at the top. I place the small ring onto the wire as seen in this pic. I then place the whole mess into a drilled hole in an old Jenga block to hold it all in one place. The wire fits in the hole, pushing the boot material further up the wire and locking it all in one place I then carefully push/stretch the ring over the boot with my finger nails trying to get it equi distant from either end of the smaller boot.(This is the gnats you know what part of the process) Once the boot is made. Pop it on your ignition wire of choice. And...Do it 7 more times...LOL... Like I said, it isn't perfect but it does the job Any questions or comments or better ideas...Please...Don't hesitate to post...

Ooh..I'd like to see that Dennis... Well. I had enough to do 2 coats of guardsman blue enamel over the top of this base...No dice. Still looks like Viking blue... I do have one more trick up my sleeve here to try but...Gotta let the enamel dry for a while. The finished car in the fore is Guardsman blue...the other is NOT Guardsman blue (But its supposed to be) I have had issues with this color in the past. If the temp is wrong or the air pressure is not just right (28 psi) it all goes south. I was spot on today...And yesterday... . Oh well, like I said...One more trick to get this to look like its supposed to. We shall see.

Hey Pete, this project looks really cool. Don't you like when the paint goes on soooo smooth the first time like yours did. I noticed how smooth your primer coat was. Did you sand it out at all?

Yes Gil. I always wet sand my primer before finish paint. I do like a smooth paint finish...LOL...Now if I can only get the color right.

OK more fiasco to dole out...LOL...Now...Now! Its definitely Acapulco blue!!! Could be worse though. Its supposed to be Acapulco blue but...The rest of the ensamble is in Guardsman blue...Soo, I was going to do ALL of the cars in Guardsman blue I do have one more trick up my sleeve to try. If that wont pan out...Acapulco blue it is... Its funny you know...The test patch came out as guradsman blue...

Thanks fellas!!! Joe. The last trick up my sleeve didn't pan out, it just made the color look muddy. That said, Acapulco blue it is...Dang it...

OK. It has a coat of clear on it all now. I'll color sand it all, give it a second coat of clear and commence the decal ritual. So, how did I get Acapulco blue from Not Guardsman blue ( but it looks like it in the bottle ) But actually looked more like Viking blue?? LOL...I cheated, I put 2 full wet coats of Tamiya transparent blue acrylic over the not guardsman blue base and Taa Daa!! Acapulco blue ... I tried to get it to look more like actual Guardsman blue by putting a coat of Tamiya Smoke acrylic over the Acapulco blue on my test patch ( plastic spoon ) Eh, I wasn't feeling it, it just looked like subdued Acapulco blue. So this is what I have to work with. Just the one pic today. Don't worry, next installment will have more than one pic showing decals and perhaps the body on the chassis, sitting on its wheels just to get the feel of the finished product. Thanks for looking/commenting and generally hangin' in there with me on this one. (It seems to have gotten a lot of views)

Ya see......I'll be taking notes from all of this . I'm getting geared up to do something with the Hubert Platt Drag Team as well. In totally forgetting about it till you reminded me on the "other forum" it looks as though you have the same build coming up. That paint job looks spectacular Pete.
