Time to get back into this one. Having a go at making the rear end a little sexier, the straight rails needed something. Added different brake boosters to the rear axle as well, the kit ones were pretty poorly formed and were only single acting. The double look is for foot brake and park brake. I used flares from a tow truck body that I cut 1 axle out of for the curve. The deck plate will come from the turntable and follow the shape down. I just need to work out how I'll blend the tailight bar into it. Also made a start on the cab and sleeper so I can install the last crossmembers. The sleeper has the walk in entry but the cab used the old 'just pull the back window out and crawl through' method. This shows the 2 types of sleeper access. As you can see the cab on the Inter is taller than the Kenworth so some filler will be required. I kept the panel low so that the roof lines would be more even.

Great work! I'm loving the creativity you are incorporating into it all. Thanks! I really need to get back to this. Am enjoying the creativity but it does take longer by the time you fiddle with things a few times until you are happy with it

Discovered I had a few issues with this that have required the best part of a week going backwards. I couldn't get the sleeper square, looks like the sprue might have been put in the box twisted and I just wasn't happy with it so it got binned and another kit was raided for a new one which is a lot better but not perfect. Next I went to measure up for the bonnet extension with the wheels on only to discover that the track of the front axle was too wide for the wheels to sit inside/under the guards!! It is the kit axle so I presume they all have this issue. I tried to get the front axle out but couldn't so I resorted to cutting 5mm off each end of the axle before the bend. I cut up a paperclip and used it to 'pin' the two ends back onto the axle. Will have to modify the steering linkage to suit. I considered cutting up an old bonnet I had to extend the kit one but with the taper on the bonnet sides I would have had a step in it so I'm trying to do it with strips of styrene. Hopefully with 1 more layer I should be ready to start shaping it to match the cab. I think I'll try and extend the detail on top of the bonnet to make it look a little less like a tacked on item. I incorporated the rear lights into the deck plate that will run up to the back wall of the sleeper. It all needs a lot of tidying up but the 'feel' is starting to come together. This all sat at the right height during the dry runs and I'm hoping it will when I retry it once the front end dries.

Wow Deano, this stuff looks very familiar. I know exactly what you are dealing with. It looks like you are well on your way though. I know you have the skills to deal with this. Like you said, it is fiddly work. Just keep picking away at it. I'm sure it will be great.

Thanks guys. Sat all the bits together to see how I was doing. It's pretty much all bonnet! Maybe I could have made the chassis a touch longer, maybe the fuel tank could be longer or even shorter thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon You can see the next problem with the front wheels/axle. With the bonnet in the proper position, the wheels look jammed in and don't sit in the guard centrally. The guards on this bonnet look better so I think a transplant is in order here.

I would remove say 5mm from the extended bonnet to move it back so the wheels look correct, or even extend the fender ? ? ? thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon and then maybe lop a bit off the front of the chassis if need be, you've got to make is easier, not harder mate. Tanks need to go to the rear of the sleeper too i think, but this is just me thinking out loud mate... it's your call.. That new sleeper looks cool though .

I was thinking of extending the fenders as well but like Dale said you’d have to do something with those fuel tanks alright. Very good ideas in motion so far!

Thanks gents, good advice all round. I couldn't do too much to the front of the chassis as the radiator and bonnet mount pretty much right at the end. I cut the bonnet extension in half, cut out the kit firewall and part of the cab floor which let me move the cab forward 10mm. This meant that I've had the pull out the cross member that the back of the cab sits on and the front cab mounts were on the section of floor I removed so they had to be redone as well. I had a go at extending the guards which ended in a disaster and it all nearly hit the wall! When I came back to it, I cut the bottom of the bonnet off (side) and inserted a new piece of styrene, cut the green guards off their bonnet, narrowed them up a bit and mounted them on albeit a bit lower than the originals. I made the new sides a bit deeper so I could shape it around the front of the fuel tanks which have been lined up with the rear of the sleeper. I sanded the rivet detail off the sleeper and gave the whole thing a LOT of sanding to make it look better. Top mount brackets for the tanks so there won't be any straps, still need to do the fillers. Getting it all square again is slow but it is getting there. Sorry there are no pics, next time.

Stick with it Deano, we all have those moments where it all goes wrong !
You usually figure it out, and generally it's those tough times that make you a better modeller !
It's going to be a cool looking truck, with enough power to pull down houses !

Sounds like a big challenge. I had an old boss who used to say "There are no problems, only challenges." Sounds like you are working through it though. I'm sure it will be awesome when you're done. Just keep picking away at it...

Thanks for the support gents. I'm way behind on this and I got a little panicked but I've given myself a good talking to! That said, things have moved forward. I got the fuel tanks on, air tanks on and drive shafts in. Had to use a centre bearing in the drive line to get the angles right to clear cross members. Broken brake boosters are also back on. The new firewall look. It needs more work but this is the revised bonnet and guard. Pretty happy with how it has come together, Cab floor rubs on the top of the gearbox so need to sort that before final placement. Pretty much how it will be. Ride height turned out fairly low for a straight chassis. Next item is the wheels and tyres. Going to try to make some super single drive tyres. This is what I'm starting with. A pair of 1:24 low profile tyres, they are a smaller diameter than the kit 1:25 ones. I slice a bit off each tyre. And then hopefully I can glue the 2 pieces together and get 1 wide tyre. Prime next to show all the faults in my body work!! face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak There's going to be a few.

This is exceptional workmanship sir.
I really like how you take into account driveshaft angles, part interference etc, to try to make your model as realistic as possible.
I appreciate the attention to detail, and I believe that is what sets apart a good model from an exceptional one. Bravo sir.

Thanks Dale and Mark, much appreciated. So, after a quick bit of advice from the forum paint guru, I started to get some colour on. The chassis is a little ahead of the cab and bonnet as they needed more filling and sanding than I expected. All done with Holts Duplicolours decanted and put through the airgun. Still have to mask out the stripes for the cab, still have to do the interior, firewall and dogbox, rearguards, bumper etc etc etc face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak not to mention pinstripes and clear coat.
