So this build off is the time I try something different. I've had a sketch of what I'd like to do stuck inside the cupboard door for years, never quite game enough to take the first step. This is about version 19 of this idea. I was going to use Italeri's Australian truck Western Star with the green box art truck on it but I have since come up with another idea for that so I've gone to the Transtar because I had no idea what to do with it!! I hope to try and follow Dee Cee's lead and go low and longish and lowrider type paint if I don't bugger it up!

Yep, a chop was in the pipeline but I'm considering a bigger engine than the V12 so I'm not sure if the chop will allow the motor in. It might just have to be through the pillars, not sure what that is called? Is it sectioning if it is chopped through the middle? I%20dunno_zpsgjbxiscc

Looks like you have a great plan Deano! Cheers but there has been a couple of alternate ideas before it even got off the paper so if I can mock it up to look right then I'll go with them if not as per the sketch. I thought if DeeCee is running a V12 with twin turbos and blowers, maybe a few more cylinders are required???!! Will have to stretch the bonnet I think to fit it in if I can even make it ( Motor) that is.

Thanks for the enthusiasm!! So, I've cut plastic and made some decisions. Feel free to laugh and point out any mistakes but 1st steps taken. So first up I extended the chassis. I don't know what it added in scale terms I just cut a bit of old chassis in half and added to each side. I backed the joint with a fairly thick piece of styrene cut to fit snugly inside the chassis. The insert was then sanded to match the profile of the original rails. Next up was to work out how to lower the front. I've decided to move the front axle from underneath the springs to on top of the springs. I don't know how this would go from a technical point of view but it should drop the front end. 3mm is the existing gap from the bottom of the chassis rail to the top of the spring. I need to widen this gap to fit the axle on top of the spring pack. As per the kit, the top of the axle is 11.5mm down from the bottom of the chassis.

Your the first out of the starting gate mate. Would adding some plastic inside the rails so you can thin the bottom edge help? It should give you space to get the axle in without affecting the body or engine mounts.

So I cut the rear spring hanger off and the u-bolt block on top of the spring pack. I made up a new spring hanger from 1 piece of plastic, drilled some holes and attached it with dress making pins for strength. The pin heads are probably a bit over size but I can live with it. So this is how it looked in the original position. And this is how it looks in the new position. The gap from the bottom of the chassis to the top of the axle is now about 1.5mm. I know it looks tight but on a show truck I don't think it matters. I'm pretty sure the real ones are all on air bags and the air gets dumped to get them down. Hopefully this way, I can mount the bonnet, cab and tanks etc as per the kit but it will all be closer to the road. I'm cutting the original mounting plates off the top of the axle and filling in the cut outs on the bottom to look like mounting plates. I have also cut the mounting plate and shock mount off the bottom of the spring pack and will put a thinner one one for a more streamlined look.

I may have to revisit this area. Once the other side is done I'll tack it together and then start on the engine. I'll have to move the cross member that supports the rear cab mount if my plan works out.

That is a great start mate... but you used pins from the shed NOT dress making ones.. face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak
I figure, if i work a couple of weeks behind you, i can see how the lowering etc is done, as i have not built trucks before.. ( only 1)..

Can I blame auto correct or preemptive text or something for that small blunder? Not sure that pins would/should be allowed in the shed Thanks for the interest guys!

For something different and outside my comfort zone, I'm having a go at making the engine for this, a V16 using 2 of the kit V8 engines. The engines in question are of Internationals own make -798 cubic inches, turbocharged for 350HP at 2600 rpm. Again, with no idea if it is technically possible, I've cut the bell housing off the front block and the front detail off the second block. This is where I start to become unsure because I've had a look online at a Detroit V16 and the turbos appear to mid way along the manifold which looks different but I'm not sure how to plumb it up - thinking compound turbos.... I've put the heads on and spun a couple around so that the flanges that are normally at the rear of the engine meet in the middle where I hope to mount the turbos. So am I right in thinking that on the air side I go from air filter to big turbo and then small turbo then blower? Exhaust is small turbo 1st then big turbo then exhaust pipe? These come straight of the V12 engine that is in the Super Boss like Dee Cee is building. I need to make up a new longer sump but it will need to clear the front axle in its new position so pretty skinny at the front end I think. Need to get the chassis together so I can dry run it together to check for clearances.

I've dragged this back out onto the bench but no new pics at the minute. Front axle is in, 3rd supercharger is on between the 2 slightly smaller ones. Mocking up radiator in position so I can seen where the front of the engine will be then I can finish the sump to clear the front axle.
