Taillights took a little longer than planned but anyways.... So, I blanked off the original cutouts, then marked and drilled/filed out the holes to take the large tube. Glued that in and shaped and then inserted the smaller tube inside. The taillights I'm going to use should sit on the smaller tube and be slightly recessed as well. Also altered the mounting points under the body to get it to sit where I wanted and centrally on the chassis. The 'wreckscued' chassis isn't as straight as it could be so the law of averages is in play. Looks great the further back you stand and the more you squint but the body will hide it.

That is some impressive work on those lights mate, VERY well done, especially with the recess in there.

Thanks guys. Been hard to find bench time lately. Keen to get it to a point where I can paint it, just hope the weather doesn't get too cold. Painting in the shed isn't much fun. Hope to prime this weekend, been following DeeCee's advice on panel prep so hopefully I have it right this time, it is the best surface I've ever had. Heaps of sub assemblies on the tow body are nearly done as well. Dropped the boom last time at the bench and broke some of the cable guides off face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak so need to rethink what I'm going to do there as well as 1 hinge on the main cabinet door Bring on the truck builds I say!!

Thanks Leon, I keep forgetting to rescribe the lines for the locker doors on the cab sides, the hinges for them and wiper mounts. Hopefully writing it here will remind me to do it.

After having another look at the wrecker body, it's having a bit more sanding, filling sanding done mainly to hide where I'm missing parts. Got the base coat of silver on the cab. Not too many dramas putting it on but it didn't come up very smooth. Painted a test bonnet and gave it a sand but it didn't like it (DeeCee said the metallics don't like it but I didn't think it was but..) anyway the test bonnet came out ok after the 2nd colour and clear went on. The front tub is the original kit one which I have cut up so I can extend the resin RHD version. Not sure if I'll put a section of flat floor in or just go with huge bed, probably the bed because the rest would be lost in the cab. Started 'bolting' bits onto the chassis as well. Next step is to start masking out the cab for stripes etc. Have a couple of designs I like so have to make a choice thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon. Need to start on a bumper and mods to the kit grill. Have painted some of the tow body sub assemblies ready for clear. Thanks for looking gents, much appreciated especially when motivation is low.

Looking great mate, and yes, Silver is very metallic, that is what makes it silver.. That fuel tank really pops with the chrome straps too, the detailing you are doing is spot on Deano..

Yeah well there is that lol with the silver. I based it on my experience with Humbrols and metalisers. Thanks for the kind comments guys. The tank straps make the tanks look dull finish wise.

Was a wet day here today so no work was happening so I managed some bench time. After spending ages deciding on a paint scheme, I settled on Kenworth's factory applied Potomac scheme - or at least my version of it. At this point I'd like to thank Dee Cee for all his painting and prep tips, I'm pretty chuffed with how it turned out for my first real go with the Duplicolours. Warming the paint made a big difference. Next job is pinstriping etc. Also made up some small guards and mudflaps to do the front axles with to help hide the big open look under the cab.

Thanks guys, I've made a start on the pinstriping using decals. Hard to keep the fine lines straight over the long runs but hopefully it'll come up ok. Have ordered some decals for the doors with the company name, hopefully they turn up soon. It's not much to look at but hopefully the clear coat will make it pop.

I'm not sure but I might have dropped the ball on this one. Was having trouble getting the fine pinstriping to sit on the paint, the metallic felt slightly textured so I gave it a very light sand. Now in some light the purple seems a little thin/splotchy. Would a light clear coat before the decals have been the go and then more over them once they were on perhaps? As usual the test bonnet came up ok but on the model, well yeah of course it was different and yes Dale said metallics don't like to be sanded face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak Hopefully the clear coat will bring it back up.

I would clear cote it, then, if some patches look lighter, maybe a light dusting of purple through the airbrush..... then clear it some more. BUT, don't be too hasty, as you could very easily go backwards too.... So just clear it, polish it, call it done mate, it looks great.

Yeah that's the plan. It's been a big learning curve but I'm really happy with the results. The support and encouragement I get here is awesome motivation.
