I'm going to go for this, the plan is most of the chrome and a 2 tone white and light blue metallic, possibly with some lacework on the roof. I've dug a set of chrome hydraulic pumps out of the spares box and a set of chrome wires with white walls. Thinking I might use a chrome revell chevy engine with some cadillac valve covers (the chevy ones are missing) While cleaning the parts, I noticed the trim around the bed is extremely faint, so I will be re-scribing it (and the other trim) to make it easier to foil when the time arrives And I removed the large GM copyrite from the bottom of the chassis (they could have put it on the bottom, but then why do that when the bonnet is fixed to the sprue in the centre of the chevrolet script)

Man that's got to be a rare kit. I have no doubt you will do it justice.

Nice choice Les, i have built one of these a few years ago, and yes, the trim on the rear is difficult to BMF, but as you said, a little bit of a scribe, and it will stand out much better. Your plan sounds like a good one too..

Your plan sounds like a good one too.. It should be a fun build, just not sure if I'll be able to find any brakes to fit with the hoppin hydros wheels. But it should be easy to lower. I think it miight be the first amt build I've done since I started building again too

I hadn't thought of that, cheers mate. I'll visit my neighbour and go through his box of fixings and see what I can find (he's big into his bikes and old cars, and his brother actually lives in melbourne)

I really shouldn't bother entering when you and Dale are entering but, what the hell. Looks like its time for the '59's to make a comeback, this is going to be nice when you've worked your magic. Popcorn%20and%20drink%20emoticon_zpsnbkzs8ys

Well I started on the engine tonight, just in case I need to do any mods in the bay or on the chassis, but as it happens only the belt assembly needs swapped out. The intake manifold and carbs are missing so I am going to use the triple carbs and manifold that came in the kit, coloured in with the chrome marker (cant really call it painted, lol) I also wanted to play with the chrome markers and I am for sure sold on them. The axle has only had the seams sanded, and only with 240 grit paper before being coloured in with the 2mm pen. I made sure the engine was in the pic with it to show how good it is, and the axle will be stripped and prepared properly next time as I want to do the housing in the same blue as the body with only the bolt on bits in chrome.

Cheers guys. I tried to brush a wash of tamiya smoke on the axle before bed last night, it didn't work. The chrome turned to a plain metallic silver so later today I'm going to try the other end of the axle with duplicolour clear and see how it works

Tried spraying with duplicolour clear on the chrome, it turned it almost white so I'll be using the pens without any clear or wash.

I may have to order a few.... unless you guys bought them all out!! It's just the axle done with the pen, the engine is one of the revell chrome ones, but the difference in the chrome is minute. You'll like the pens mate. I'll be using them a lot on this build

Well I painted the chassis this afternoon but couldn't get a decent pic of the colour (will try tomorrow in daylight) and I've cut the sides off the interior tub to make it easier to detail. All the parts of the chassis frame and bits that would bolt on are going to be done with the chrome pen (I really love those pens, lol) I think I'll still do the body trim and exterior chrome with foil, as it will probably hold up to handling better The chassis is actually a little more blue than it is showing

Did a little work on the suspension tonight, pretty happy with how low it is, so now it's on to chroming everything. The front might actually be a bit too low though, the crossmember is on the floor and the wheels barely tough the ground. Hoping to have the chassis and engine together over the weekend then on to paintint the interior and body. Chroming shouldn't take long, those pens are so easy to use and dont even need primer

Cheers guys, it's such a nice easy kit to lower, the front has 3 height options so I went with the lowest, and the rear has half round mounts for the axle so I just filed them down some more. I've only had a tiny amount of flash too but the top edge of the front fenders will need the sharp edge adjusted

PERFECT stance mate, if the chassis is just touching, give it a sand on the bottom, if it don't touch, it's legal.... Great choice of wheels too mate.
