OK, This is our first... from scratch MOTM for this new forum, so it has to be special.. My favorite 40-50s car would have to be the 41 Willys, hands down..... I have build quite a few of these over the years, all super tough builds, so now it's time to do something a little different with one. I am going for the "show Rod" look this time, with modern wheels on it for a change.. There will be lots of work to get it to sit where it needs to be, but that is what building models is all about, making what you want !!

First off , that is one cool ride right there Dale. Ever since I was a kid I've always been drawn to these early Willys cars so I can't wait to see this build come to life. Secondly, if it weren't for the fact that I've currently got three builds on the bench that I'm somehow juggling into what will be completed models I'd drag mine into the mix which'll lead me into my last point that I don't know if I'll ever be able to complete a model of the month build. There aint no way..... no way I could complete a build in one month. I think my shortest build has taken me around the 4 month marker. I will, however , enjoy every second of this build so lets see whatcha got buddy.

Neat, the wheels looked a little odd at first but they're growing on me Yeah, i know where your coming from mate, but i need to do something different with one, and that means making a gay set of wheels look good on it.. I just have to knock the rest of it out of the park to make it happen i think.. Thanks Larry Joe, you need to plan ahead, pick a month and start it now, that way you will have the pics ready for when that month comes around mate..

This is coming down the pipe line and might be in time for next years MoM contest. All of my Street Demons revamps are done in OOB colors and schemes but the rest of the build is all custom. I don't know what engine or wheel / tire set up I'll be going with so that'll come to me later. Here's the kit I've got for that build though.....

I know this is politically incorrect, but I fell out of my chair reading this statement. my apologies to anyone that I have offended.
.... and sorry, but those wheels will never grow on me, but I understand where you are coming from. soooo, now comes the next question, if you are going that drastic of change on the wheel/tire combo..... what can we expect to be lurking under the hood?

well, if you want my $4,500 worth (my advice is worth way more than 2 cents... icon_drum_zps4hmvpn40) I would section the body and drop a modern hemi or be even different, a Z06 motor and maybe use some of the suspension and interior parts. maybe even put the hood stuff on there....... just spittin' word out here.

Gee, this time gap gives you guys plenty of time to get revved up...... Tubbs, i'm not politically correct, but i try not to overstep the boundaries... The wheels may be changed again, but they will still be a set of modern ones, just so this one is different to the others on my shelf. I would not change the body on a willys, as it is PERFECT already i think. Engine , it will stay a HEMI, but will be modernized some how, not too sure yet, as it is only day 1 .. But i have a couple of details up my sleeve i will be playing with, and NO, it will not have one of those generator motors in it, i've had enough of those, we just pulled the engine out of my sons Mazda and put it back in, it is a 13B Rotory, SO enough of lawnmower motors for me..... 84

Cheers men, well, started cutting pieces up on this one, little by little. First was the front suspension, removed all the wishbones, and made them movable, it is easier to get it low this way. Also had to remove some plastic from around the engine mounts, so that the suspension can move. The one on the left is where it used to sit, the right one has been flipped and lowered. As this kit already has some sweet tubs in the rear, why not show them off.. Make a fuel cell. And smooth off the inner trunk.

You going for working suspension?

Post by DeeCee on Dec 3, 2016 17:52:20 GMT -7
You going for working suspension? Not necessarily "WORKING", but it is movable . These are a bugger to lower and still look like it should. So this was an experiment, a bit more work than usual, but will look correct.

With what you've done already a couple of springs from a pen, a q-tip stick and some thin rod to fit inside and it should work since your half way there already.
