Some of you will remember this build. I didn't realize that it's been almost a year since I posted progress on it, geez!
Anyway, I ran into a bit of a problem modifying the front fascia, well pretty much botched it, and set it aside until I could figure out how to fix it. Well a couple of months ago I bought a 3D printer. Its a filament type and not the resin so it really isn't the best for 1/24 and lower scales but I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. I've also been working in Tinkercad, and bought Allibre Atom to learn on a real CAD program.
Fast forward to yesterday and I decided to try my hand at designing a front fascia for the Corvair and I was successful. With success being a relative term. This pic shows my total butchery of what was a decent-looking front fascia. I had some pieces that I felt would work here for the headlights but they turned out to be too large.
Here is where I reached the point of no return and decided to start from scratch.
I used Tinkercad to design these which really takes a lot of predrawn shapes that require you to mix & match to create finished objects.
The one on the bottom was the first one I printed. It was too narrow, and the slope of the middle part was not steep enough and stuck out about a millimeter and a half. The second one was the second one I printed and it came apart on the one end when I removed the supports from the openings because of the way it was oriented on the printer.
The first one is the finished product. I printed it as you see it, face up. Because of that change supports weren't req'd in the openings, however it resulted in a little rougher finish.
...and finally with it mocked in place. It will require some finish work but nothing major. I'll use aluminum tubing for headlight bezels and canopy glue for lenses (fingers crossed). Below it you can see where I was going.

Well I did at least get paint on it, though not my best work. Got a few minor issues left to sort out and really no excuse for not buttoning this up.

I did do some light sanding before and mucked it up. You can see it on the top. I'll give it another shot though because I think I hit it too soon before it cured fully.

History: When I painted this originally I put the paint on too thick and it took ages to dry. I didn't want to strip it because of all the body filler I'd used on and knew that stripping it would take that off too. After it finally dried I tried sanding it but that didn't work either, so into the purple pond it went. I redid all of the bodywork while making a few minor changes. I've only got a few minor issues now to take care of and I'll be ready to post the finished pics soon.

Such a cool idea for this car Dennis. Sorry to hear of the misfortune on the paint but this is still going to be a build for the books right here brother.
