Hey Gang.
I'm kinda going out on a limb on this one but its one of those "must do" builds. I'm sure some of you have seen this concept. I won't be trying to duplicate it, I plan to use some of the concepts to build something similar.
The original design calls for a 12 cylinder engine but I just don't see one fitting, and I didn't want to buy a new engine anyway.
I'm going with the LS6 out of the C5R Corvette mated to a transaxle from 3D Model Specialties. I'm also changing the manifold to one a bit more modern. Its also from 3D. The base kit will be the Chezoom funny car kit because its already mid-engine, and I won't be using any of the trim parts on the stock Corvair anyway.
I'll be cutting parts from a C5 chassis I have in the parts box for the front and rear suspension, and grafting them to the Chezoom chassis, which should be a blast. I won't be rushing this one so it will be a slow go. Thanks for your interest.

Now this is what I like, the concept pic is awesome, never thought a corvair could look so sleek ! The B pillar helps make the roof look lower, and those front lights are evil ! You got me hooked, good luck with the project I'll be following along closely !

The B pillar helps make the roof look lower, and those front lights are evil ! You got me hooked, good luck with the project I'll be following along closely ! Thanks guys. Not only does the b-pillar make the roof look lower, but also the top is "rolled" down over the side windows. At first I thought it was a chop but I matched them up and although there's a slight diff in roof height its not enough to rework it. The challenge comes in trying to duplicate where the rear glass stops for the engine cover. I've got ideas on fabricating the sail panels but I'll take any suggestions into consideration. I won't be duplicating the engine cover either, though I might use a piece of clear styrene to show off the intake. that's all up in the air though. Got a long way to go before I worry about that.

Man that looks great Dennis!!! With enough research you can find some really deep wheels that'll get you close to what you want. This.....is going to be an attention getter!!!

I did find some deep wheels to use but I chose those because I had them, and if I used deeper wheels I'd have to totally fabricate the front and rear suspension to be narrower and I really want to spend most of my time on the body.

Looks like another great project Dennis, I love it when you go that little bit 'left field' , this is what I call modelling mate.

You guys that do custom work know that moment before you make that first cut? But then you just say here goes! I found the top that I chopped off my 63 Galaxie for the the Customs MOTM and thought the pillars were pretty close to what I needed.
With that done it was time to figure out the location of the B-pillar and the engine cover area, which is when I ran into an issue with the seats. I'm using the interior pan from a mid-engine curbie that I never built. Its longer and wider than the kit interior. I bought some nice races-style seats but to me they sit way too high so I plan on using some other seats I bought at the same time for another car but they are less sporty. Your thoughts, please?

I think the sports seats fit the look better than the other pair. If you know what height (in milimetres cos i have never used inches unless buying clothers, lol) I might have some lower ones in the same/similar style. The revell 2013 mustang has some that might work but I have loads of other and I would be happy to donate a set.

I 2ND the short seats. The recaros could be cut down but...Don't think they fit the exotic car look the concept art portrays. Yeah the first cut is always the hardest.

I'd use the small seats, a lot of these style cars have sculptured leather inside so it would work !
The rear pillars are perfect, but can I suggest a slight chop ? If you cut the front pillars down, move the whole roof forward and tilt the rear pillars slightly ? The concept pic looks like the roof is shorter to allow for that engine cover !?
Just an idea, NOT a criticism, you build it how you like it !

Just an idea, NOT a criticism, you build it how you like it ! Thanks for the recommendations, I invite constructive criticism and idea sharing, so no big deal there. The only issue about the shorter seats is that I bought 2 pair for my 64 Impala so that I could do front & rear buckets that match, but I could always buy another pair.
I agree with a slight chop at the front now that I look at the way it kind of looks like a ski jump, tho I'm not keen on tilting the windshield because I'm not sure how the glass will fit. I'll look into it tho. As far as him leaving more room for the engine cover, his concept was to use a 12 cylinder engine, so he needed a longer rear area. I don't need the extra room because I'm going to a V8 that's even smaller than the Hemi in the kit.

I actually have a set of Mustang seats, tho they are from a 97, and they aren't as sporty as newer versions I think they will work, and I can keep my other seats for my 64.

I did a 2mm chop to the A-pillars and it was just what was needed. Thanks for the suggestion. It's not glued down yet because I've added flat piece to the engine cover area and I want to get that smooth and cut the hole for the cover opening before I put the top permanently in place so I know its all level.

Big project mate but I love where you are going with this. Very nice mate! Thanks. I'm working on smoothing the bodywork now, and wondering if I should go full custom or keep the basic Corvair look in the front.
I've got a couple of headlight options but don't want to stray too far. What are your thoughts?

Personally I like the stock lights but maybe a little more overhang on the hood would give them a custom sunken look, sorta like the 1970s (not sure of the year, possibly 71) rs camaro had the extended grille area compared to a base model.

I agree. After sleeping on it last night, or rather waking with it on my mind this morning I decided I want to just enhance the stock look a bit.
I'd decided to go with smaller headlights but hadn't thought about sinking them in. I'll give it a go. Thanks.
