Thought id show you my next project, couldnt find one locally so ive waited 6 weeks for this to come over from the USA ! icon_clockwatch_zpsxnglspgq
Absolutely love this car, based on Boyds Smoothster i heard Lindberg bought the molds and released this version...
Going super detailed on this, bit of photo-etch here and there, want to make a really nice model of this one !
Not sure about that grill, thinking of making my own.... emotion-8
Now the big rig is complete i should be starting it soon, although theres usually a few days just looking at it, reading instructions, then throwing them away and getting started ! sCh_reader_zps810724fe

Now I've had a chance to look at this, and dry fit a few parts I'm really disappointed with this kit ! There's really vague fitment, bits don't line up, and there's gaps around the interior and chassis where you can see straight through the body ! ! Thinking at the moment to use the running gear and a new body, the 37 street rod kit? Maybe a 40 ford? Kind of fed up, wanted to build this straight but I'll have a play around and see what comes up !

Sorry to hear that Martin.I know how you feel The Lindberg kit I built for the big rig build was a pain in the butt,a lot of the parts didn't fit right.

Well ive seen a few of these models which came out well, so im sticking with the smoothster body ! Just in case im building the body first ! As the hood fitted well i taped this in place and glued the dash/windscreen surround in so it lines up. Will be adding a front hinged hood so i might fill a couple of gaps where the hinges go too ! The rear panel with the exhaust cut-outs fitted badly so ive blended this in . Also under the running boards had sink marks etc so i made smooth panels from 0.5mm plastic card and blended thses in too. I like the look of it laying on the floor so it may get lowered with airbags, but first a smooth firewall is on the way, more sanding then its primer time !

Cool, like this Dale, great job ! Any secrets to how you painted the grill ? Came out really well, one of the best I've seen !

Still smoothing out bits on this ! Think every part of the kit so far ive smoothed, im getting obsessed with it ! Engine basics together, there was a hole where you could see past the starter motor and into the gearbox, so ive plated this with sheet. The sump and gearbox pan have had the nuts and bolts smoothed out and im currently smoothing out the firewall ! Not sure about engine design yet, i`ll add the heads and intake when ive decided on the look im after !

Thanks Leon ! Yes not much else to show at the moment, its too cold to paint outside (cant do any indoors!) So im still smoothing things out for a change ! Wasnt going to use the air cleaner but im trying it out, i cut a groove in the end which i`ll fill with mesh for an air cleaner, and smoothed all the detail off of it. The rocker covers are corvette, and, er, smoothed ! If i carry on smoothing like this, im going to produce an egg on wheels ! icon_giggles

Interested to see where this goes.
Regarding your egg comment, I am particularly interested to see what details you leave behind
and what colors you will use to accentuate what you are working with.
This is a very interesting exercise in aesthetics. Neat stuff.
Carry on sir....

I hear you on painting! Started a build 3 weeks ago and its in the box because my paint room is now a storage room while we do some remodeling and the weather is getting to cold to paint outside.

Probably a light gold and champagne , or maybe a light and darker gold ! I'm keeping it clean, smooth and simple, so nothing there that doesn't need to be there !! It's a great shaped car and I can't find much i want to change, once parts get painted I'll have to decide if it's too plain or not , hopefully it will look CooL !

As i cant paint anything yet, thought id start the interior. I did spray it all matt white, and was going all white, but it was too bland ! Just looked like id put it together with no paint ! So i added a light grey, ( looks a bit green in the pics? ) then out came the foil.. centre console and door panels were done, with a pin shifter ! Then i added chrome to the carpet edges to seperate them ! Back of the seats was a gap, so i filled it with fur ! Seems i cant do an interior without adding fur and chrome ! More still to do, p/e window winders etc but its getting there...

Thanks guys ! Few more details, p/e speaker grills for the doors, and a chrome strip round the back of the interior to tie in with the door chrome ! Then spent ages making door handles, a p/e piece with slices of plastic behind and thinner pieces for the actual handle ! Oh and p/e seat adjusters on each seat ! More soon !
