You don't muck around mate... wow!!!
I have seen an old fire engine used as a race hauler before, still looked liked one from side on, but the whole guts was removed, with a ramp and race car put in there instead..

I think i know the one you mean, based of a early 50s chevy pick up and something to do with coker tyres. I know diesel brothers have one of these in green

That's one of them mate, also seen one similar to what you have aswell, just with the whole rear stuff removed, and a hauler tray added.

I think I'll go for something like this. I found this photoshop online and the link Poet shared earlier has some wheels/tyres that should work in 26 inch

Looks like an awesome build. I have a mate who is a fire engine nut and I think has every fire engine kit ever built but hasn't done 1 but they look like a nice kit to build. DeeCee is right about the transporter with the fire gear removed and tray added, biggest dual cab I've seen!! Have seen 1 painted gold with heaps of chrome and red pinstriping - looked posh as!!

I actually bought this one by mistake, i thought i'd clicked on the amt kit of the early one and then this arrived. It seems pretty detailed and the box is heavy. I'm going to have to get up to speed with pe as there is quite a lot included. There's no engine in it though but I'm sure i saw a detailed pump so I'll use it for the engine pics instead as i wouldn't know where to start putting one in this and still being accesible. I made sure to keep all the turntable and ladder from the delaheye fire truck so I might try and give it a more modern look as it extends and I like the look of the ladder on top of the one in the pic

Cheers guys,
I actually have the AMT American Lafrance Aero Chief.
The plan was to make a ramp back race car hauler with it.
Maybe now is the time? Hmmm...

I though I really should look in the box, this thing is huge especially since its 1/25 scale. To give an idea of the size this is it pictured with the vanagon The 2 back pieces seem to be the same size again and one looks to be covered in pe which needs folding. The ides of using 26inch rims might also have to change as the wheels on the van are 19inch

Pretty sure i know how i'm going to lower this sucker now. That boxy looking thing at the front is the bottom of the engine so I notched the rear edge of it to allow the axle to sit a bit further up in the frame. It wont be as low as i want but with all the parts for the interior I'd like to avoid cutting them up (8 seats) so once i get the front sitting where it'll be going the back should be much simpler. I may end up losing one of the storage bins at the back but it will mean I can just raise the axle to suit which cant be more than half an inch cos one side of this is lower than the other so it and the front will set the max lowering amount. I think my next step will be getting the rear body together for mock ups but i'll check the instructions first

Sounds like it's going to work out nicely! I hope so mate, theres a lot of parts to fit in there still and I'm dreading the foil. Pretty sure its going to use most of a sheet for all that diamond plate. Just now the cabs in dettol but the paint is slow in coming off. Until I get it stripped I'm pretty much stuck as the lower edge of the cab is well below the floor and i need it for mock ups

I might be able to get on with this in the next couple of days. I dont know what kind of paint the previous owner used on this but after 2 1/2 weeks in dettol its nearly clean and the diamond plate detail on the back of the cab is showing again. I've also got another small problem in where to put my dios as I've got no space for them so they may end up being stashed away out of sight

Still in the dettol, the paint on the cab is really slow in coming off but theres not much left now. Hopefully it will go a bit quicker now as I got some new dettol today and swapped it over. I've also figured out a way to get an engine as part of it, and I'm sure you wont be surprised to know its a vw aircooled one. I remembered reading about vw industrial engines being used for fire engine water pumps in rural germany and since I have a few extras one of them will be getting some scratchbuilding to create one of these.
