The paint on the cab still isn't off on one side. dettol hasn't touched it, oven cleaner just made it shint so my last resort is brake fluid. I'd hate to try and strip this if it had been keyed ofr the paint, its stuck like s*** to a shovel. I dont think it will leave me enough time to build it though so I'm going to withdraw. When it eventually does get stripped it will be built to the plan

Sorry to hear this Les. I had a problem also with my truck build. When i clear coated the cab an old piece of paint spit out of the airbrush. All the parts came out nice except for the cab.so I needed to strip that.I tried oven cleaner, that didn't work. Then I tried brake fluid and that took the paint and primer right off with no damage to the plastic. It took about 3 to 4 hours to work but I would check it every hour and scrub it off with an old tooth brush. When you get all the paint off make sure that you wash it real good with dish washing soap. From now on brake fluid is gonna be my go to stripper, nothing works faster or better for me.

Am I correct in thinking that there are 2 kinds of brake fluid, mineral and synthetic? If so which one do you use? Showing the depth of my mechanical ineptitude here!

Sorry to hear that it hasn't gone your way. I'm sure we all feel your pain but hopefully you will be able to start again and get the result you were after.

Sorry to hear that the paint gave you some trouble on this one Les. Watching your recovery. The paints still not off mate, I'm on my work week just no but I'll put some pics up of the problem once I get back home. It looks like something in the plastic might be the problem as some of it has gone green and brown. The paint I was removing is white as is the plastic so I'm really not sure whats going on with it

Have you switched paint stripping methods to try and get it off?

Have you switched paint stripping methods to try and get it off? yup, dettol for 4 weeks, oven cleaner for 3 days and its been in brake fluid since then. Now I think about it though I'm sure I read somewhere about some trumpeter kits having very poor plastic sometimes

That sucks Les!! the brake fluid didn't work? what type of paint did you use? Its a second hand kit Mike, only the cab was painted when i got it so i have no idea what kind of paint it is. I suspect it is baufix (lidl supermarket cheap stuff) brand though as I've had trouble with it before. The only reason it went in the stripper is cos I wanted to paint it black to make all the chrome pop more and the doors needed scribbing as they only had a front edge. There's still a chance the brake fluid will work, its still sat soaking in it.
