OK guys, this kit has been a lurker for a long time. I bought the kit originally because it was super cheap at the time. Have built one before and it's a great model to put together. Also comes with a very well detailed Nissan 6 with triple carbs. This time, I'm going a little crazy! Parts bins will be raided! This is beyond anything I have ever done, and will likely be a slower build. Parts gathered so far include the rear clip and tubs from the AMT Pro Street Nova, front suspension and MQQN tank from the Revell '41 Willys gasser kit. Engine is not decided yet..but the Nissan 6 is gone!! So this is where I am at so far: I've boxed in the front chassis rails for the straight axle, I had engine mounts in there, but have removed them again. I had also removed the gas tank, but then decided to remove the rear of the chassis and put some tubs in there instead. *never cut n shut a chassis before. * Will be back with more soon, as I wait on parts for my Corvette gasser.

WOW!! That is a big project mate, but i know you can do it. !!!
A pretty good start so far mate, and the first time cutting a chassis is always the most nerve wracking for sure.

Awesome and unusual Bruce just take your time with it and you'll find it an easy enough job

Thanks guys. Well I over-trimmed the tub section, but have added some strips in it to fix that. Chassis fits great now-even uses the mounting points inside the body. Mocked up the stance, went for the widest slicks I had! It's going to be pretty radical looking:

It has a nice stance to it. The KPGC10 is my dream car and if this was to happen to a 1:1, I'd slap the owner . I am liking where this is going.

Exactly my reason for choosing to do it to this kit...because no one ever would. Especially a genuine GTR. Wait until you see what else I have planned for it. This is going to be a very confused car. icon_free-sign-smileys-1010_zps84ab39f3 Part Shakotan, part pro street, part gasser and whatever else I can throw in there.

Yowza! That nova rear piece is probably one of the best pieces to use. But this build! Wild!

It has a soft spot in my heart

OK Dudes, this model has really got me hooked! The crazy ideas continue to flow and still progressing forward. I now have a suitable motor...426cu.in HEMI! Because if you're gonna go all out, you may as well go ALL out. It's a REALLY tight fit, but it fits. Since the front wheels won't be occupying much of those wheel wells, I may as well fill them with fender well headers! (this also helps with that tight fit issue) Also done some chassis work, first layer of fill between the original chassis and the rear section. New engine mounts are in. Gearbox X member modified to suit. Also found some suitable springs for the front, so started making the new spring mounts. After all this I sat it all together, to see where the actual stance would be....it is a little more crazy than what I thought. Have also detailed the grill & headlamps. This should give a hint at the Shakotan influence in the car.

Hey All. Small update on this one, just been messing around with the interior, to make way for those tubs! No way a seat will fit, so have made a flat panel instead. It will be flocked when I get to that area of the build. Also retained the top portion of the seat and package tray: Made the chassis look a bit neater, and then decided I didn't like the chunky Nova rear axle. Grabbed a 9" out of the parts bin and shortened that to suit. Also changed it to a 3 link, coil over set up. Still need to make up a panhard rod though. Thanks for looking.

Well, It's been a pretty average week on this one..The rear end set up has given me grief. In trying to make sure it was all square, mounted properly, etc. Disaster struck!!!! I snapped the chassis in two, just where the rear clip joined on. But, I was able to put it back together and got that pesky rear end sorted: I have also started the detail work on the injection set up. The engine will change colour I think, not happy with the red. Thanks for looking.

I have also started the detail work on the injection set up. The engine will change colour I think, not happy with the red. Thanks for looking. Man the progress and ideas on this build are just out of site Bruce!!! Very cool idea and implementation.
As for the engine color, I usually black base all of my engines first and then apply color. This way I can start with a dark color and work my way to a brighter rather than going from bright to dark. You'll also see a difference in regards to the shadowing effect being a little more prevalent. Again, fantastic work going on so far.

Getting back onto this one. Sorting out some "issues" that have reared their ugly head: -Blower annoyed me, have replaced it. -Front axle was not detailed enough, have replaced it.(this may require a wheel swap on the front). -Fighting tyre fitment issues on the rear, but nearly sorted.(this DID require the rims to be swapped out with some new ones I am widening up)
But on the positive side: -Interior is mostly painted. -Engine is repainted all shiny. -Body work has started.
Will get some bench time and pics this weekend hopefully. Peace out.

OK, What is the best thing about being the only person in your office on a Saturday???
You can bring a model along and make some sneaky(and paid!) progress. Got the mammoth slicks fitting it is still real tight, but there is clearance: It's a little tighter with the fender flare in it, but still clears:
