I think I'm going to go with this. Got a rough plan for it that involves stripping the chrome and doing some weathering and generally making it look a helluva lot tougher. I've got some other parts for it that may be added too, and possibly a dumper trailer if I have time. It's a lot of parts but from the truck builds I've seen the chassis and axles are assembled and painted as one so that might save some time. Hoping to paint it yellow or orange and maybe lose the sleeper (if the cab back doesn't have too many shapes to it) and replace it with a crane/hi-ab. I have replacement tyres for the truck as it has horrible plastic 2 part ones with nearly no detail. Lots to do but I have 2 weeks at my own house coming up and will finish the lexus first. Probably not going to wire the engine or chassis as I have no idea where any of it would go, and I haven't found any decent reference pic of those parts

Very interesting! Those truck accessories always have so many cool parts. I've never built a semi truck but I have 2 in my stash for the right time.

I don't think I've ever seen one of these before Les and I've been across the world and back and missed it. Looking forward to your build here.

Looking good mate, nice thinking on the fly too. Go outside and get some slushy mud from a puddle, put that on the windows, maybe through a spray bottle, it will take a few cotes, but layer it up as it dries, it looks real on the 1:1 cars..

A door (complete spare cab actually) has been offered for this build after I shared it on a uk truck forum, so expect finished pics when it is fitted

With the arrival today of a complete spare cab I spent a bit of time dismantling it. I only needed the door but the grille on the spare had the decals and lights (for some reason my kits didn't have light molded in the grille) so I carefully removed them from both and swapped them around. I also used the dash out of the spare as it had the decals on it too, and looked much better than my efforts at adding bezels. I'm not going to repaint the new door as I think it ties in well with the worn look of the rest, though some rust might be added for effect. The chances are high that the remains of the spare cab will be used as a load too, so nothing will go to waste.

Man that does look good Les!! I like that weathering on the wheels and tires!!!! The tyres were simple to weather since they're rubber. I just put them in the pile of filler and other dust on my bench, roll them about in my hand (any direction, eg. side to side, since there is a lot of give in the rubber tyres) and voila, job done. It doesn't work on vinyl tyres this way and I havent tried it on the soft resin tyres. For different colours of dirt I would add ground down hard pastels to the dust

daf looks good les as for the resin tire thing heard baking soda can be used to simulate mud but hey if you got actual mud way bother lol the baking soda works on die cast or it seems to for rust

Thanks for the info on the filler. That's a great idea.
