Greetings.. I am a native californian… and have just started up model building AGAIN at age 59… I used to build a lot of models when i was a kid (elementary school) in the sixties etc.. and I maybe built a model or 2 afterwards, in my 20s and 30s… I recently started again by being nostalgic for some of the cars my dad and mom (family) had back in the sixties and 70s. i started with a 1965 Chevy Impala SS. my dad had one as a company car. then I built a 1958 plymouth belvedere (my mom had a used one in early 60s)), then i found a rare un-opened 1971 pontiac grand prix model (my dad had one as company car) and so on.. then i started looking at other cars and stuff.. and dang.. now i'm hooked again. my other main hobby is music.. I write and record my own pop rock music... Many thanks to iceman for informing me about this site I hope to post some pics soon. all the best wishes to all… model-on! Cheers, Rick C

I guess being in california must be kinder to your cars, I'm on the orkney islands in the far north of scotland so rust is a big problem here. It probably didn't help that my old wreck only cost me 500 quid, lol. Those old 70's alfas had some neat styling to them, and that new v8 one looks like it could be a lot of fun

Hey Rick, Welcome to the forum. I see you have already met some real great people in the society. I myself somewhat parallel your world. I am 62.... Grew up with models in my youth and lost track of them in my early 20s. I reached out for a few in my 40s, but they just didn't fit. My first real job was at an import auto dealer. We carried four car lines with Mercedes-Benz and Roll-Royce as our mainstays and sold and serviced many others including Alfa-Romeos. My personal skill is that with the right tools and the right amount of force, I can take anything apart.....anything....Now getting it back together and making it work is something I leave for the professionals...lol. Music... .. Every parent aspires their child to be a great musician and my parents were no different. I chose to play a combo organ in a rock band and did pretty well for a local band. I still have my Gibson G-101 combo organ (the same organ used by Ray Manzarek of the Doors.) Musicians ... My music school teaher's name was Harry Grebb....his son, Marty Grebb was the organist for the Buckinghams.....Marty would hang around with Pete Cetera from CTA (Chicago). Harry Grebb would hold large stage band ensembles on the first Sunday of every month and make Marty play.....Pete Cetera played a few times as well. I played softball and drank warm quarts of beer at a local park. A half a block away was the home where Ray Manzarek of the Doors was born & raised. I lived about 2 miles from him... If I would have been a good boy and went to a Catholic school, I would have gone to high school with Ray.(although he was a few years older).... Small world....'eh....
