Hi guys I was looking at trying out this wrapping film for autos, have seen 1.1 vehicles wrapped over original paintwork to change their colour, as anyone else used it on models. Was looking at the colours they do and some look interesting.

I'm not sure if it would work on models mate, the film is heated up with a heat gun to get it to go on the curves smoothly and I would expect it to melt the model (you cant touch it with bare skinwhen its heated up as it leaves finger prints. It would work on a diecast though. There is another thing thats close that could work though, called plastic dipping (not sure why) that is a spray on coating that can be removed in the same way as the film, or hydro coating might also work which you may have seen on wheeler dealers when they did some interior plastics

Thanks for your comments, I have seen that hydro coating on YouTube, may be worth having a look at that, I was thinking about the wrapping as there is some guys started up doing it near me, was going to see about some off cuts and try it on a old body first,i read that you can use a hairdryer to warm it up, not as hot as a heat gun.

Yep - you can use a hair dryer for this. I have some carbon fiber vinyl sheets that I have been wanting to apply to a hood to see how well I can get it to work. I have applied LOTS of vinyl graphics to 1:1 rides, so I see no reason it could not be done with our plastic. A simple water spray gun, with just a few drops of Dawn dishwashing soap works best. Wet down the model, and then wet down the sticky side of the vinyl, (JUST THE STICKY SIDE - DO NOT SOAK THE WHOLE THING. YOU WANT THE PEEL AWAY PART TO STAY DRY OR IT WILL MAKE YOUR VINYL WEAK AND STRETCH, CRACK, ETC.)
