Picked this one up as a built up. Looks can be deceiving, this car needs a lot!! Someone decided to hack up the interior tub and the chassis and install a HEMI where the back seat is like the HEMI Under Glass. I'm not sure what I can do about the chassis but the interior is trashed. I found a complete interior for this car on Ebay and grabbed it. It had some flat black paint that was thick. The tub soaked in Brake Fluid for 3 days, then in Purple Power for 3 more because the brake fluid did nothing. The Purple Power did nothing either! So...out came the Easy Off Oven Cleaner. It took about 4 hours to get the paint off. Not all of it came off but 95% did, enough to prime and repaint and look good so I can live with it. The car is currently stripped apart and the body is in the brake fluid tub soaking now. I am not sure how this will be built back up but it will be interesting for sure. Day one, Replacement interior. Before, After a major chore stripping the paint, Here is what is under the rear window and the chassis all cheezed up by the suspension,

Very nice score on this one. If youre changing out the chassis possibly check either a revell 66 charger or even a revell gtx chassis may fit and will look a lot better under it.

Think maybe they might be a bit big?? too long and too wide. Wondering if a AMT 71 Duster chassis might be in order?? There is a model swap in a couple of weeks by me. I will be keeping my eye open there as well as Ebay and word of mouth. One will eventually show up. Passed one up on Ebay. The guy wanted 12 bucks for a bare chassis that was used and painted ugly silver, don't need one that bad YET!!

Not sure if it would be the same but possibly the new mpc release of the 69 barracuda may fit as it looks similar to the one I have.

The body looks great so far bud. I've gotta be honest about those tires though. I never did care for those, even as a kid. To me they always had an "all terrain/mudder" tire look instead of a more sporty/ aggressive look.
Looking forward to more progress.

I agree. Don't have any others to fit at the moment. This is all just tacked together for the moment. It will change at least 5 times before I get this completed lol. I want better tires and wheels on it and most likely will raise the front up a bit. Not sure if it's going to be a small block, big block, or a HEMI, or a 6 banger. Interior will get detailed and painted up but won't be changed. I reality I want 5 hole Indy Slots. Deep dish and shallow on this car, not the Keystones I have on it now. I have an 80 Volare in the box and it has the flares and wide tires that I'm not using. Maybe them front tires can be used on the back of this one as they are wider. I don't think the rear wide tires off the Volare will work as there just is not much rear wheel well to work with here. I just think this car looks tons better than it did. It's a start anyways?

Would sanding some of the tread off the tyres work? you could get them to look like they've been doing a lot of burnouts or just more in scale tread for a road car

Not worrying Dale. I already made a change. New tires and wheels and I made suspension adjustments. The front did not look right and it was stuck in my head so I raised the front up a little. Now it sits right with the right tires and wheels on it. Pictures will be posted later today or in the morning.

Looks great!!! I just love the lines of these cars. I had a 66 as my very first car. Had a blast in that thing even though it spent much of its time with me with a 318 V8 with a 2bbl carburetor on it. lol

Thanks guys. Its staying like this. Next is to get a motor in this chassis and get it to fit right. Then the car gets taken apart so I can start restoring the body. I still need tail lights and a rear bumper too so nothing is going to really happen until all the parts are lined up.

Like mustang1989 said, wish I could find one of those big-drooling-smiley-emoticon and I don't want to sound like a broken record, but other tyres would look better.

Ya don't like the new tires and wheels I put on?? Thought I nailed it with RWL Good Years and Indy slots?? I am thinking of buying a resin 65 Cuda body and taking all the grille and bumpers, and light parts and adding them to this plastic body as I do not like resin. Only thing stopping me is I will be stuck with a 65 Cuda body I do not want. Wish somebody would sell just the grille, bumpers, and tail lights. It would save me a lot of hassle!!

okee dokey then. I thought these tires were perfect. Just the right amount of tread in the back and lettered nicely. I want so much more out this model but do not want to go away from the cheap, incorrect early AMT design. If I had my way it would have a detailed chassis with detailed and separate suspension components unlike the incorrect stuff it has now. Using the 69 Chassis I was able to stay within the boundaries of early design, add dual exhaust with the 69 chassis and no other upgrades. I'm going to finish this off with a small block with not much extra than a 4bbl carb and a little bling. Looking to add a resin flat hood with no scoop and just stay simple with this build and restore it with some added flash. This alomost could have been listed as stock but its a bit modified!

None as of yet. Still searching for tail lights and a rear bumper. The big model swap is just around the corner by me. Maybe I will have some luck finding these needed parts but not sure about that. I have put requests out around the sites on the web and had no luck at all. Kind of in a holding pattern until I find some.

Working on it Al, might have found a guy who casts the rear bumper and tail lights. If this holds true them parts are a coming!! I am hoping to find out tonight. Next is to find a motor fr this one. Once the parts are all here the bodywork begins on the body. I want this done and done soon. I have a 66 to get to next, unfortunately its a H.U.G. body so the wheel openings in back are big. Thinking maybe another tube chassis car to go with the black one I have??

It's reminiscent of the Formula I Super Stock tires from the 70's and 80's Looking good I like the wheels, everything fits the type of car it is

Liked the wheels better too. Still tinkering around with motor choices and a few other things but its getting closer.
