I am currently working on the Atlantis rear engine dragster that portrays one of Tom McKewens top fuel dragsters. I'm not going with the McKewen livery but have painted the body in Tamiya champagne gold with a Tamiya metallic blue stripe. I'll carry the color scheme through the wings as well. Apart from an after market magneto it will be all box stock components. I have stripped a lot of chrome. The kit chrome is rather heavy handed and I really don't see how some of the components could fit together with the heavy chrome plating. It's early days for this one so here are a few pictures as I am deep into cleaning up and test fitting components. ~Now to see if I can figure out picture posting here~

Looks great so far. That Paint scheme on the body looks good. I'll be watching this one.

This kit (well the Monogram version) and the funny car Mongoose were the last two I built in the early 70's before giving up modeling for girls and real cars!  |

A Halloween update on the rear engine dragster. The parts are gathering for final assembly but there is much yet to be done. I've stripped a lot of chrome and got paint on most of the parts that need it. I discarded the magneto/wiring harness provided; made of vinyl and it looks more like a spider than an ignition system. A prewired 3rd party magneto will be installed instead. I will try to make use of the fuel and oil lines provided despite their being the same weird vinyl like material. I found that the stuff can be manipulated with just a bit of heat but go a bit too hot and you end up with a handful of spaghetti. Don't know what, if anything, I'll do regarding painting the fuel and oil lines, the vinyl stuff doesn't hold paint very well. Any suggestions on that problem would be welcome.  |

its all looking pretty good Andrew. you could try plastidip paint for the vinyl lines. its not really like normal paints but more like a thin spray on latex you can peel off. it might stick to the vinyl or maybe car interior dyes would work. i know on my gunze ghia i just changed the vinyl interior bits for tamiya bug bits afer the paint kept cracking on me. or maybe even paints for fabric would work since they would flex. i haven't tried any of these though.
