I'm going to have to start getting in on this action as there is a wealth of aftermarket parts that I could use one of these for. I hear ya dude. I've been doing my research and here's what I've come up with that would need to be bought along with the 3d printer of your choosing. 3d printer of your liking Slicer (software to prepare .stl file) Resin of your liking 99% IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol for Cleaning) UV Light Box (Used to cure your print) FEP film Plastic pan for cleaning build plate If I've left something out please enlighten me. Your printer will come with slicer software. You may opt to change to another kind but until you know how the slicer that comes with the printer works, no need to worry about it. My Mars 4 came with Chitubox but I prefer Lycheee, though CB is works great and has nice features Lychee doesn't have. Add to your list paper towels, lots of them. Also, neoprene gloves, and a respirator. I use the same one I use for painting. One tip I picked up is to not empty my build plate unless I have a failure. It saves on FEP sheets. Stir it carefully with a plastic scraper to prevents spillage, and visually check for errant bits.

Sorry I'm late to this discussion. I'm on my second resin printer, and I also have a FDM printer. I use it more for household printing but I like it for chassis when I don't want to print them in sections.
Below are some designers I've bought from, or plan to buy from that I've saved as favs.

Pretty kewl stuff guys. Well...looks like these 3d resin printers need to pretty much be in a controlled environment around 70° to control more of the failed prints. So that means I can't use it out in the garage. With my heater on in the garage I'm lucky to get it up to 60° in the dead of winter which is fine for me but not so much for the 3d printer. I just keep hitting one road block after another.

this i the audi i printed the other day. at first look it looks pretty good but when we look from the side we can see that the body height drops towards the front. if i use more and heavier supports i can avoid this next time its not much of a droop but its enough that none of the parts fit now but i own the file so i can just reprint. it will be near 30hours print next timme so i'll put a couple other bodies on at the same time

That Audi body does look pretty nice Les. its an Andrei bezrodney file. He has a lot of classic american stuff. i'm doing his 68 chevy crewcab next but i'll be using a chassis from somewhere else as Andreis chassis are toyish, but where else can you get a 4 door satelite or a willys aero?

I'm seeing heaters for 3d resin printers so there might be hope for me yet. Question....I'm reading about the exhaust fumes and it says to run the printer in a well ventilated area. So, if I'm running a print in the garage and I'm out there for half the day is my wife going to find me toes up

So, if I'm running a print in the garage and I'm out there for half the day is my wife going to find me toes up the garage should be big enough and if you have your drier out there its probably already vented. honestly though, i have mine next me but an extractor running occaisonally but i need to watch the temperature when its on, and i'll leave it running overnight in the same room i'm sleeping in. i haven't used a resin heater but its the build late temp that counts most. if it gets cold the print wont stick to it.

I hear ya Les. The Chitubox heater can swivel so I could point it wherever and with the thermostat setting I could get the temp where it needs to be.

at night having the printer in a cabinet (if its in the garage) might still be a good idea. it would seal it away from rodents/vermin and keep the heat cost down

That Chitubox heater mounts inside the work area of the printer with the lid closed so the cost wouldn't be much. I'm still doing my research on printers, resin, heaters, etc.

i've got 2 anycubic machines. the small one is a photon mono 4 which is just big enough for a 1/24 body but thats all that fits and the big is a m3 max that can do a full kit. i've been running the m3 this time since i'm doing a lot of parts but if it was just a set of wheels or an engine i'd usually use the small one. i've only got the big machine as i got paid off from work so i treated myself to it

I also looked at the Photon Mono M7. There's just some many out there to choose from.

other than size i dont see much between mine. for ease of learning i'd get the same brand as your mates. it makes it easier for them and you if they have experience. if you can, get the biggest you can make space for and newer models. my big printer is the size of a small fridge. having the biggger printer means you can do bodies and larger scale too. things have jumped forward in the 2 years i've had mine.

Thanks for the info dude. I think I'll stick with the Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra. It seems to be pretty plug & play with auto leveling of the build plate. Before I retired I worked for an Automotive company in the Quality dept. I was their CMM programmer. I wrote computer program for the MM machine and ran the program. I used Rhinoceros 3D software for all the 3D files I got in of grilles, license plate buckets, side moldings, etc. Maybe the software side I'll be a little ahead of the game.

i get mine on cults mostly but there are other sites. motabas has really nice engines but h sells gearboxes seperate. he has some unusual engines too. i just printed his hellcat and it has everthing except belts but a slice of insulting tape will sort that. there really are hundreds to choose from, verying from pre war speed equipment to modern f1. aswell as the hellcat i did a bmw turbo and a vw drag engine. theres bays and engines for a lot of curbside tuner kits too that build up nice. a lot of the files texas 3d started with are on cults but he does extra work to them i believe though i have his coyote and its exactly the same as the one i printed but i bought that before he had the website and he may have altered it since then. i know some of the more recent engines are ones he went out and bought to scan so you'd still need to but them from him

I don't see a category for model parts or sellers like motabas. So if you don't know who's selling what how do you find what your looking for?

i tend to search by car brand and scale. i also search by scale alone as it brings up surprises. searching 24 and 25 brings up mostly the same stuff but there are exceptions. when you open a file on cults if you click the designers name it will bring up all their work. dor example searching jaguar moss should bring up the motabas version. cults3d.com/en/users/motabas

also if you click game it gives you more options such as auto and moto Thanks Les. I really like how they give you the settings for the different printers. Do you use them? 3D printing settings The photos represent the engine made with a resin printer, some photos are renderings of the project I made. It is possible to print with FDM printer at moderate speed but obviously the level of detail will be lower and in some cases the supports will be necessary. These are my printing parameters using Elegoo printers and YAJO standard resin. PRINTER............BASE EXPO....NORMAL EXPO....RES JUPITER............37sec.............2,0sec.................0,050mm MARS 2 PRO.......45sec.............4,5sec.................0,050mm SATURN.............35sec.............3,5sec.................0,050mm Change scale: 1/12 > 1/25 -48,00 % 1/12 > 1/24 -50,00 % 1/12 > 1/18 -66,66 % 1/12 > 1/10 -120,00 % 1/12 > 1/8 -150,00 % 1/12 > 1/5 -240,00%
