I am in the process of building two 40 Fords from pieces I have collected and they are going to be the last I do that are not complete, for about a year there was a small hobby shop where I could get parts but he had to close so I am back on ebay but its just taking too long to find the parts I need so back to complete kits from now on. That hobby shop had spoiled me since he bought out collections and was always getting new stuff in and not having to buy on ebay and was about a mile from the house, with Modelhaus closing I doubt I take on many restorations since they had me spoiled too. With my parts sources gone I will have to change what I build.

It's a shame that so many of the local hobby shops are having to close thier doors...sign of the times I suppose with on line shopping and such. And we all already miss the Modelhaus! They are sorely missed!

Too much overhead. Hobby shop owner in our club closed his shop. Sells out of his house now. Win-win for all of us, he has no more overhead and he dropped the price on all his stuff. Feel funny going over his house though.

I was in heaven when this small hobby shop opened up,it was not like the rest but he did have some new kits and was mostly parts, parts models along with built models so it could really have been called a model used car lot with a junkyard.

I bought two complete unbuilt AMT 40 Ford frames off ebay last night and since I have a complete coupe interior I might try to find a complete coupe body and build another,I do need one frame for a restoration of a 40 sedan I built back in the early 70s that some how the rear bumper brackets has broken off but I can not quit doing this.

There was a really nice hobby shop close to me that I did a lot of business with and they closed down and moved way across town. In Houston across town is almost 100 miles this city is so big and stretched out.

There used to be a very small hobby shop near me but it closed 12 years ago. Now my closest model shop is (apart from a record shop that only sells airfix military stuff) an overnight boat journey away and even then they dont have the kits I like, just military, f1 and ferarris. Makes me happy to have the internet, and I've found some good places to buy from for both current kits and older second hand kits. The only time it's a problem is for paint and glue since a lot of places wont put it in the mail so it has to come by courier which is pretty expensive.

A 40 coupe body is on the way so my last complete extra coupe interior and chassis will be used,I found out the guy who had that small hobby shop sells parts at a local antique mall so if it rains tomorrow I will be finding out which one.

That would be handy, maybe a little expensive, but very handy having somebody parting out kits like that. I have a good stash of kits, but i find myself doing "parts builds" often, as i might find a body that i want to do, and don't have a new one on the shelf.

Yeah. I've thought about parting some of the older kits out. It seems like it's good money. Just not sure I have the time for it.

Sheesh! Everything I build has donor parts all over it. Sometimes I'll go to HL and buy a complete kit with a 40% off coupon, strip all of the usable goodies off of it (motor, wheels, tires, goodies and decals) and give the rest away. I did this for a while till I had a decent parts stash built up. It sounds a little expensive until you look at what it costs to buy the later needed parts individually.

All my builds have donor parts on them but they are usually extra parts I have in stock, starting with one part and having to find the rest is usually more expensive then just going to the hobby shop and buying one and it also takes longer to finish the build so I am going to cut down on doing that type of build unless something special comes along.
