Well guys its been a while. I hope you are all doing well. I ended up putting the audi back in the box after discovering each light was 14 pieces of photo etch lenses with the largest being 2mm by 1mm and i just didn't want to deal with that yet. So this week I have taken the monogram 36 ford to work with me. It will be a late 40s kustom with one of the awesome la-salle grilles mastered by rik hoving of the custom car chronicle website. The kit had a small block v8 but since they weren't available in the time frame I am robbing parts from a revell 40 coupe and a dropped axle from the parts box. I found some flipper caps in my spares box that are smaller then the ones in the revell 50 ford pick up and they seem to fit the 40 rims. I'm thinking it needs to be chopped to fit the look I want so the front is losing 2mm and the rear 3 or 4mm. My next update will have progress pics of the work so far which has mostly been fixing the body lines at the rear and getting the body to actually fit the fenders properly as out of the box it doesn't sit all the way down due to some interference between the hinge mount for the trunk and the fenders.

LOTSA mods going on with this one so far. That grill looks like a PIA to deal with but I'm sure you'll be able to work it into the body contours.

That grill looks like a PIA to deal with but I'm sure you'll be able to work it into the body contours. it looks worse in the pics mate. i have to cut a section from between the front fenders and it will sit nice then. I'm not doing that yet as these old kits are pretty brittle and its holding them in shape just now. My plan is to fit it just before primer

I think what you're after is well within your reach Les. It's gonna take alot of clean up at the C pillar area but this is entirely doable. Looks good so far bud.

That is one bloody awesome looking chop mate, done perfectly !!
If you use the sanding dust and CA glue to fill those gaps, it wont sink back like filler does when it eventually dries.

That’s looking GREAT Les!!! I’ve turned to Joel for several items on the last couple of builds as he’s got a good thing going with his store. I miss him being here but he’s serving the modeling community well where he’s at now.

Cheers guys, I'm just working on the rumble seat now. I was going to remove it but i decided to add some more detail to it instead which will also close the gap between the seat and fenders

I didn't realise the rear bumper pic was so bad so here's one you can actuall see, lol I've also glued the front grille in place. I had to remove the 2 small sections of plastic that held the fenders together to do this so figured it best to do it at home so they didn't get jostled too much taking it back from the boat. To get the grille to fit also meant slightly pulling the fenders apart and I added a small section of plastic behind for additional strength. I might leave the bumper as one piece, it seems to be shaped to avoid the grille and once its at stock height it will give a more finished look to the front end

Well I honestly thought i was done with the bodywork. I had parts in the booth but the rear of the monogram body wasn't right. They have the section from the rumble seat back almost flat and if you look at a real 36 its got some curve to it. I guess thats why they had spare wheel to hide it but I dont want the spare as it'll spoil the flow of the chop and grille. So I took my blade and scribed around the body on the inner body line, from the rumble seat mount back (nearly messed up and moved it but realised before the cuts were done) so as not to affect the mounts and ruin the fit. Hopefully this will save some hair pulling later when it comes to assembly. I used some evergreen rod to move the body section out and as you can see the plastic is thicker in this area so reshaping shouldn't be too bad. This is after 4 hours but theres still shaping to do but the side to side curve is really there now and not just implied by the curved cut on the rumble seat top before during currently

My engine and axle arrived this morning so I can get some more progress on this. I may have to modify the rear of the chassis to fit the quick change axle as its got a larger centre than the stock axle.
