My new project is the Monogram '53 Chevy Bel Air. This kit was given to me several years ago and I have been thinking about it lately. This kit has had the body painted already and it is partially foiled by Tim Rhine of the Classic Plastic Model Club who gave me the kit. I will finish the body and will add some parts from the Monogram '53 Corvette to the engine and wheels and tires from Steve Zimmerman. The interior will be painted dark red. More Bel Air to come...

That's a great job on the foiling Mike. Speaking of which....I've gotta get me some more of that stuff but I've heard nothing but bad stuff about the new batches not adhering well.

The foiling on the body was done by my friend Tim Rhine. I just have to finish it. I heard that the new batch of foil was bad and BMF is aware of the issue and they are trying to correct it. All of my foil is at least 3 years old and I have decided to use Micro Metal Foil Adhesive with it. It's another step, but it seems to work rather well.

I worked on the chassis today and during a test fit of the body and the chassis, I discovered that the Corvette induction system I was using wouldn't fit. I pulled the induction system and the valve cover off and replaced them with the custom pieces from the kit. I also completed the dash minus the custom reverb which I will install later. More Bel Air to come...

The last two days have been spent foiling and I did such a lousy job. My foil is old and has lost a lot of its adhesive so I have been adding Metal Foil Adhesive before the foil itself. It should be simple to add, but it looks like crap. I suppose I should break down and by some new foil from the manufacturer, but I hear of issues with that foil as well. I finished detailing the dash and now onto assembly! More Bel Air to come...

Supposedly, the Bare Metal Foil Co. is supposed to be working on a fix for the adhesive problems. I called them and am waiting on a response back on this very issue.

Hey Mike, I just got ahold of Randy from Bare Metal Foil and he said that he's going back to the thicker foil that he had in stock before Covid. He also said that if anyone has a batch of foil that's not sticking to send it back to him in an envelope. Just the foil, no instructions, no original envelope that the foil came in......just the foil folded up and put in an SASE and addressed to the addy that's on the outside of the original foil envelope. He'll send you a new sheet. If you need to get ahold of him his phone # is 734-604-3695

Thanks Joe! I doubt I would send my foil back since I got it from several sources and most of it I never paid for it. I appreciate you giving me this info though!

I wanted to repaint the seating surfaces of the interior, but to block the red from showing through, I must paint the surface black, then silver and then white like I want it. More Bel Air to come...

Dealing with some of the colored molds can be tricky at times but it looks like you've got a good method for handling it Mike.

While the silver spray paint is drying on the seats, I sprayed some Model Master White Lightning Lacquer into a cup and using a fine tip brush, I tried to lessen the black panel lines that Tim Rhine used on the '53 Chevy body. Came out pretty good. More Bel Air to come...
