Hello gang. I've been out now for the better part of 2-1/2 weeks. Over Christmas break, both of my parents contracted Covid and dad did pretty well through the whole thing and has since recovered. Mom......didn't fare as well. Her bout with it turned into Covid pneumonia. Dad tried to get her to go to the hospital for four days and on the fourth day he called 911 and had the paramedics come to her. She was arguing with the paramedics that she didn't need to go to the hospital.....with blue lips and finger tips. Finally the medics talked her into going in and within hours she was put on a ventilator for the next 10 days. It was simply too late though as her kidneys and other organs started shutting down on the 10th day. When dad made the call to take her off of the ventilator Mom, Lynell Kay Shaw, passed away on Sunday, January 23rd peacefully 10 minutes later at 3:15 pm and with all of us gathered around as she took her last breath. We buried her on Thursday in Bowie with more than 200 people present for the funeral.
I brought my family back to Corpus and went back up to Bowie to spend a week with my dad which turned out to be a very good thing. Internet is a splotchy thing up there so I haven't been on for a while. I'm back home as of yesterday and will be getting my feet wet around here once again.

My belated condolences (I don't check in here as often as I once did).
Been there. My Mother was beyond making her wishes known verbally but expressed them by repeatedly seizing the bannister with a grip of iron while the ambulance crew tried to carry her downstairs... Given she didn't see out the day I sometimes feel it was cruel not to let her die at home in the same bed Dad had, but it was the Doctor's decision and I did not oppose it.
Again, my heartfelt sympathies,
M

Thank you all for the encouraging words and support. Things are slowly getting back to some sort of normalcy like things do. I've been checking in on dad and seeing how he's been doing since I've been gone. Spending that week with him was absolutely invaluable. We talked like we've never done before and spent some good quality time together. It iced and snowed like crazy up there and I got iced in for some additional days which gave us the opportunity to spend a couple more days together. It was something that both of us will remember for a time to come. Mom not being there physically was the elephant in the room but we made do and I'm sure she was watchin' down from "upstairs".
