I have been working on this one for a while now, there is a LOT of custom work going into it, and did not really want to post it up until i knew i could do what i wanted to do . A few years ago, i started a 48 Lincoln, worst kit i have ever started, but i did this custom rear end for it, and when everything went back in the box, i knew i would use the rear end one day. Well, i pulled out a stock version of the 49 Merc, and proceeded to hack the cr@p out of it, this is where it got pretty scary for quite some time. I knew this would not work for me. Started with a re-alignment of the roof height, and shortened it a tiny bit, and instantly knew there was a problem.... This is where i thought of that rear end sitting in a box... somewhere... ? ? OUT came the saw again... AND " MY VISION" !! I'll let you take this in for a bit, before i show you the next load of modifications..

Mike, Dennis, thanks guys, there is a LOT of work to make it all go together, and re-doing it over and over to get it right, and then the spare on the back doesn't look right, so that is being changed out at the moment. Oh well, the sandpaper is getting a work out that's for sure.

Here is how it all eventually went together, i have removed the spare wheel and remade the rear lid section and recessed a # plate into it aswell.

Damn that's radical! I like where it is going though. You are braver than I with that hacksaw.

Guys, thanks very much, i do this, because i don't want to pay a fortune on a resin body, which i need a donor kit for everything else. Besides, that would just be "somebody elses imagination" not mine. Well, here is the interior for it, should give you some idea of paint color.

Pete, Jo, thanks guys, and Jo, the secret, don't be scared, just cut it up and then work out how to save that kit from ruin... I love this style of modeling most of all, imagination at work, and having something NOBODY else has on their shelf. Well, the undies coming together, and engine has been done a while, just forgot about it..

Thank you all, it is an interesting , difficult but fun build, and hope to wrap it up soon, Martin, . . . the day i was having, it's lucky to be in one piece mate as this was the third crack at a paint job, and i reckon the bumper should disguise it anyway..

Just read this again, considering I'm not really building anything at the moment, I don't think I should be criticising other people's builds ! So apologies for the comment mate, I'm looking forward to seeing this complete !

Your painting skills are to be envied my brother.
Couldn't help but notice your fence in the yard. Are those 12x12 posts those 2x4's are bolted to?
