This one got bumped up the to do list while I'm waiting for parts on other builds. The Revell T900 Australia kit is the donor kit for this build. This is the look I'm going for. The truck in the picture is actually a T908. The 501 is a more heavy duty version, intended for heavy haulage and outback roadtrains. I'm using Auslowes resin transkit for this where you get the bonnet and all the bits needed to turn it into the 501. I'm also using their KW cab, the one in the Revell kit isn't to Aussie spec. Yeah, I know, more resin! The grey cab looks good. I can see some pinholes in the bonnet but it looks like an easy fix compared to the Titan, no detail in the area. The kit comes with a V8 Caterpillar engine. These weren't an option in Aussie trucks but I'm going to leave it in. Just going with a little detailing but hoping to push myself on the paint and finish. There are a few small surprises in the kit. The first is that the suspension is one sided - there is no back on the airbags and the bottom chassis rail is also missing at the airbags! First job will be to sort this out. Going to try and fab some up myself rather than buy a new rear end. I'll be happy if no one notices them, it'll mean they look right- I hope!! They'll be hard to see once the drive guards go on.

Thanks guys! Things are moving forward with this. New airbags have been made. I used alloy tube only because it was all I had in the right diameter. Cut to length then an insert in each end, the spacing plates and a lower mounting pin. I also filled in the missing sections of the chassis rail flange. Airbags are mounted, bottom plates still to go on. Up the front end, the original drop down front section of the chassis has to be removed and a new section recessed to mount the kit front cross member in. New resin cab mounts are supplied. It must be a stiff ride in the cab with no 'suspension' of any sort between the cab and the mounts. The front axle is also moved backwards and the front mounts are blocked down to level the springs and give the truck the correct stance. This means that the steering box, which normally mount on the rear mount for the front right hand spring has to be moved forward of the axle with new pitman arms and linkages made. I swapped the kit axle for a white metal one to help take the weight of the resin and it also allows for posable steering. New top mounts for the shocks also had to be added due to the axle move.

This has been moving along slowly in the background, I've mainly been fiddling with getting the quarter guards to mount on the cab so that they actually line up with the bonnet guards. Iv'e had to reorder a set of guards because the first ones just weren't playing the game. As usual with this yellowy resin, the is a multitude of pinholes that need filling, sanding, repriming and repeating!! Anyway, the chassis has been primed.

Great start! The chassis in primer looks like the real deal.

Have managed to get some paint on this, my dissatisfaction with the cab continues but it is getting better.

I used SMS's Raspberry red pearl over a black base and SMS clear over that. Vallejo chrome was used to pick out the nuts. Although this truck was never offered with this engine, I kept the kit engine but updated the paint scheme to look like a newer Cat motor. Still a bit to do on it. I made a bit of a rookie mistake with this, I trusted the "instructions" that came with the transkit too much and glued the engine crossmember in as suggested only to find it is too far forward and the front engine mounts don't reach it. So rather than cut up the chassis to move the cross member, I made an extension piece for the front mount. Pretty iffy I know but it's one of those details that won't be seen once it's finished, (hopefully).

Been fiddling with stripes on this using different width tapes to come up with something similar to the original.

Hoping to get into the camper build off, get the AC logger finished and the paint on the Mack Titan finished. I have a cabover Kenworth i want to do and a Mack tow truck ready to go as well.
