Quick peek at my next project, couldnt resist picking up one of these as i built one when i was a kid and made a right dogs dinner out of it !
Its the big 1/16 scale convertible 55, reissued, but the same kit as years ago.
So what am i gonna build with it ? Well probably my usual Lowrider style, up on stands with the wheels off .
As theres no lolo stuff to use im thinking more of a Bomb style, original wheels n tyres, interior etc, but full length cruising skirts and a continental kit ( which i`ll have to scratch build ) Also lots of chrome, engraving, and interior accessories, you get the idea right ?
No idea of colours yet, not sure about brake details etc, open the boot and add scratchbuilt hydraulics, maybe a few murals etc who knows ?
I do wanna try out a new chrome airbrush paint i have too, i`ll let you know how that goes...
Heres the box art, more as soon as i figure out a theme ! !

Thanks for the interest guys.. When i said i made a dogs dinner out of this as a kid, it was partly cos the kits a dogs dinner to start with ! yeah its an old mold, but man this is going to need some work ! Made a start on the body recently and theres more flash than a Kardashians waldrobe ! There are also wide gaps around the chassis when its fitted to the body... To give you an idea heres the front corner, notice the bottom half of the front wing is further forward than the grill area ? Theres the usual seam between the headlight and the corner of the bonnet too which all 55 kits have ?? Plus a chunk missing from the headlight `eyebrow` , the second pic is the other side ive just finished sanding smooth... Wish me luck its gonna take a while this one, more soon, I`ll keep you updated as i go...

Thanks Joe, Its just Vallejo Metal, in Chrome which Ive never tried yet... Next up was the windscreen surround, Im getting the worse bits done first working from front to back ! As you can see theres mold lines on the side of the surround which look a mess, and no gap line between the scuttle and front wing ! one pics before and ones after..

That's some good clean up on that framework Martin!
I may have to look into this Vallejo Chrome. Is there any particular clear coat that works well with it or have you tried that yet?

Thanks guys, Joe, Ive yet to try the chrome out, but I`ll let you know when i do... Next up was the firewall, it has a transmission hump you need to glue in, and its a really bad fit .. After thinking it over I decided to add a smooth firewall, after cutting out any lumps n bumps i made up a template, then glued in plastic sheet to match the template. Took ages but i carefully cut out the transmission hole, leaving an overlap so you cant see where the hump joins the firewall. Hopefully the pics will make more sense of it ! Oh and the thin black line at the top of the firewall is sharpie pen, i coloured it black then sanded it !

No ideas ? Well the rest of the Interiors nearly complete, just as much cutting and sanding to get this to fit as the bodywork ! Nicked DeeCees idea with the seats, black cotton around the seat panels. Didnt realise how hard this was, respect Dale for your 1/25 interiors !!
Carpet was fun, being 1/16 I used felt, 13 seperate pieces ! Door panels are BMF, engraved chrome card, Molotow pen, and white fur ! Im happy with the dash now, hand painted then i added a metal gear stick, i like the billet transfers, but the kit comes with all the dials/radio etc molded in, so i had to smooth the panels before adding transfers. More soon.....

The thread idea does my head in most times, but is well worth it, and yours has come up a treat and really makes those seats pop mate.

This is coming along very well. These big builds like this lend themselves to having alot of detail put into them. Can't wait to see more of this great build Martin!!! Fantastic progress so far.
