I wanted to be part of the first MOTM and I was going to build the first car I ever owned at 15 yrs old, a 1954 Ford Victoria, them I decided I wanted to do something different for the first contest so I am building this R of G Mercedes. I have been wanting to build it anyway. In 1955 Mercedes built a racing version that Stirling Moss won the 1000 mile Mille Miglia with and I have that model as well but I thought this street version was a better for this. It is the same as the racing version [except the racing version was open and this is a coupe] with the same engine and at the time was the fastest car licensed for the street. It topped out at 200 MPH. Only two of these cars were ever built. This kit has opening gull wing doors and tons of detail. A really gorgeous inline eight engine that I've done a lot of research on. I'm going to put these three piece Boranni wire wheels on it. I have to finish my roadster before I can start this but if I have any trouble with the roadster I will put it in the box so I can get this one finished on time.

Thanks folks for your interest in this. This is a level five kit and it's not going to be easy. Not everybody's type of car but I'm looking forward to building it. I just hope it doesn't beat me up.

I'm not going to finish this in time. Painted it five times so far and every time went south. More to the this model than I thought also. Grandson came to visit for two weeks and he is retarded and needs attention. Wife has been sick all month. Just too many things going on and I'm not going to make it for the contest. I will finish it though. I'm going to finish my roadster then this one. Have to find out why I can't get a decent paint job. Comes out dull every time. I sand it with 5000 grit every coat and still dull. Go figure. Very sorry folks.

Sorry to hear that Dennis, is the air wet? that might explain the paint being dull

Nope, painting it in the house in a vented paint booth. Using Dupli-color paint. I've had this trouble with this paint before but I could always bring it out with fine sandpaper and rubbing compound. Not this time. I may have to use a different paint until I can get my airbrush going. I'm going to send a picture to Dale and ask him. He'll know what's wrong. I misted on five coats, each coat dried dull. Sanded each coat with 5000 grit. Last two coats I painted fast up close, 7 coats altogether, they were real shiny and dried dull.

Hang in there buddy.
Hope all goes well with the paint and am looking forward to the outcome.

Thanks Joe. I'll get it done eventually. On top of everything I can't hardly see out of my right eye. Everything is just a blur even with glasses. I have to have an eye operation after the first of the year on both eyes. They say I won't have to wear glasses after that though and I have worn glasses since the 5th grade.
