Your making great progress on this Joe, and man, that is one serious bullet.. Thanks Dale. The one thing that I haven't given up on is bench time. At this point it's some good therapy. Yeah one well placed hit from one of those rounds could bring down a B-17. At the end of the war the Germans had all kinds of nasty surprises. Alright folks. I've got the warble pattern laid down as of this morning. Well be putting color coats on shortly......

That looks amazing Joe! Gonna be a fine example of the breed when done. Thanks Pete! That's the platform coat for the color coats to follow. The idea is that if the color coats are put on thin enough it'll look like a worn/ weathered paint job.

This build is simply stunning, I love it and WW2 aircraft but can't build them to save my life. Super impressed. If that's a bullet it's not going to leave much!!

Joe, the fun part is here! The preshading looks killer. One suggestion before your color coat would be to hit all the panel lines with the black first, that way they will stand out a bit when you are working the color toward the edge of the panels. Just my 2 pennies.

That is great progress Joe.
Seeing the paint scheme built up, layer by layer is very cool, and informative.
Carry on sir....

Dean: Thanks potna! It's all just different techniques and when you get them down it's just clicks. Mark: Thanks bud. Gil: Glad you're taggin' along. I just knew there was something missing and you nailed it. Got the corrections made. I added the black on all the panel lines. Now.....I'm ready to start applying the color coats. Here's the scheme I'll be going with: Franz Stigler's 262 from JV44

Alright gang. Here's how all that prep work comes into play. I got a very light coat RLM 76 (light blue) applied to the bottom of the aircraft this morning. The emphasis here is going to be on the effects of the foundation work with a light coat of color applied.

Gil: Thanks for the input buddy. I knew something was missing. Leon & Pete: Thank you both for taggin' along. I know she's not a car but hey....it's modeling. lol Was going to paint some more yesterday but I had the opportunity to work on my other and MUCH more expensive hobby. I replaced my insufficient shorty headers with a set of Hedmann long tube headers on my 94 Silverado. The efforts were worth it both in the sound and the performance department as it made quite a noticeable difference from my shorty headers that I had on there. The instructions called for removal of the starter and torque converter/ flywheel inspection pan to install them but I ran into issues being able to get that passenger side header in there so.....the engine had to come up about 2" on that side to be able to install it. So much for simplicity ...right??!!

Nice!! Long tube headers are always better for making low end torque than shortys. That's the difference you can feel in the seat of your pants. Better scavenging effect. Installing headers is only easy on funny cars and rails. Everything else has a car/truck in the way.

Got the topside colors on and was hoping for a little better definition on the mottle pattern. I might come back over it with some more over the weekend. Disregard the hard demarcation line between the upper and lower colors on the gun bay doors as that one piece panel is temporarily in place while the paint work is going on. I'll be going with the opened up panel piece after all that's done. Here we are as of now.

Feather in the lighter color at the demarcation line then hit it again with the dark color. Gotta tell ya...It looks good from here!!

Thanks you guys. I applied a glosscoat to the top side yesterday using Vallejo's acrylic gloss. Dunno what it is about acrylic glosses but it was fairly difficult for me to apply (probably because I thinned it down too much ) and it puddled in a few areas on the starboard wing. Gimme some lacquer based clear and I can work wonders with it. This stuff is like me trying to speak a foreign language. Anyhow.... I sanded the irregularities out of the gloss, touched up some paint where I burned through in the sanding process and re-applied the gloss this morning. Cals are upcoming next....
