Hi guys.
In the process of choosing a new airbrush and I want to try some new paint ... Ideally I'd like to stick to one brand so I can develop a way of consistently getting it right !
I've heard good reviews of createx, thinned with future ? Anyone tried it ? Or can anyone recommend a brand ?
I want to spray indoors, so ideally a water based product right ?
Also as I'm in the UK it can be quite expensive shipping paint over !
Any advice is appreciated, yes there's a LOT of utube vids etc around but they differ so much in advice, who to believe ?
Cheers guys...

I've heard of people thinning it with screenwash but haven't tried it myself. If your getting the airbrush have a look at jawell paints, england based and stock house of kolor and a load of others and I'm pretty sure they do airbrush quantities. I used it over duplicolour with no problems. Thers also a paint place in spain that does auto colours scaled for models that gets really good reviews but for the life of me i cant mine the name but its the same name as a place in the usa (splash colour maybe) I think I've seen createx stocked at hobbies.co.uk (used to be a catalogue in the newsagents but online now) hiroboy also stock airbrush paints, and theres always the tamiya jars too but i think they need cleared to shine.

I just bought a couple of their pearl colors after watching a boatload of vids on YT. I also wanted water-based and wanted something with a good color selection. I bought the reducer for mine because its the first time using it, which I haven't done yet, and their new clearcoat.

Thanks Les and Dennis... Les I want to try water based stuff so I can spray indoors, no worries about weather conditions !
I'm thinking now of trying game air or model air paints now... Cheaper and easier to pick up, they are all Matt and need clear.
Any idea of a high gloss clear to use ?

I find them kinda nice to use and they thin with tamiya acrylic thinners nicely. The guy in my local place was telling me they will have airbrush ready paints this year too.

Thanks Les, Do you mean those little citadel jars ? If so, from what I've heard it's cheaper to buy the game air stuff, and it's also easier to use the game stuff ! But thanks for the recommendation mate, I'm still researching it all !

I'm not sure if this is of any help but my son has been trying these paints on a Volvo truck he is? building I'll be the first to admit that I don't have much experience with these but had trouble getting a nice cover with the white and ended up somewhere above matt but didn't make a semi gloss finish by a long shot either. Sprayed in warm weather, white undercoat so not sure why it didn't come up to expectations. The build came to a halt at that point. Not sure if this helps at all.

Thanks Deano, Well I'm only going from what I've seen on utube etc , but there does seem to be problems with the white lid paints your using. Game air/model air paints (with black lids) cover better apparently, there's never a problem of paint reacting with these, so maybe try a game air paint over the top of your son's truck ? I'm collecting some paint this week so I'll experiment and let you know !

Hey Martin,I have a few acrylic paints that I use that work great. The airbrush that I use most of the time is the Badger 350,its a great airbrush for any type of paint. Craft paint like folk art and apple barrel mixed 1 part windsheld washer fluid and 1 part paint works great for interiors. If you don't want a real shiny paint job it works great for bodies and it can be top coated with future [Pledge floor care finish]. Vallejo model air most of the time can be sprayed right out of the bottle,it can also be thinned out a little more too.I mainly use this for engines and chassis detail. I only use the white cap Vallejo for brush painting only. The black cap is for airbrushing and can also be brushed too. Testors Aztek airbrush paint works great for painting bodies and there is also a Aztek clear top coat you can use. All these paints work great for me with no smell at all. I hope this will help you Martin, Good luck with the airbrush!

One point about Vallejo paints and acrylics in particular; Acrylics like to dry quickly in the tip and don't usually allow for prolonged spraying so a retarder is recommended, especially when doing detail painting. Also, Vallejo paints aren't very durable and will wear off easily when handled so an overcoat of their poly clears or future is highly recommended. I have used acrylics from a number of different manufacturers and have recently used Mission Models paint which has performed better than any other acrylic paint I have used. That being said, when it comes to painting car bodies nothing can compare to acrylic lacquers. Speaking of that; Stitch, the company I think you are referring to is "Gravity Colors" paints. They are top notch.

Thanks for the information, I'll certainly bear it in mind ! I have found thinning them with future floor polish works well, it also adds a bit of gloss as the paints dry Matt usually... Overall i really pleased with the results so far, I'm currently experimenting with acrylic chrome !

Another Acrylic question. Are Acrylic paints when air brushing affected by high humidity and/or heat like enamels and laquers??

Hi Mike ! Now I'm still learning myself, but I've found so far as I'm spraying indoors then neither are a problem. Although as mentioned above if it's hot indoors the paint tip does dry quicker, so adding the retarder stuff helps !

I picked up a bottle of Folkart Black acrylic enamel to experiment with. I have an old bottle of Future too. Gonna see how it goes. I paint in my garage and the temps are a bit lower in there but still humidity pretty high. We'll see.

For my last 5 builds I've been using Tamiya Acrylic paint thinned with Mr. Color Leveling Thinner. It's been working great for me so far.
