I think everybody around the world has seen the fires here in Australia, it is a bad year, and here is a NASA generated image of the fires over the last month. Not all fires are still burning, but most still are. Most of those area's not on fire, are desert, with nothing to burn. Hope all you Aussies are safe guys ..

Jeez, I didn't realize it covered that much land.. Really hope all you people there stay safe, to think we complain here on the other side of the world about it raining too much ! I was reading about the amount of cash the UK spends (wastes!) on foreign aid, but something like this is something the whole world should be helping with. Hope it gets sorted out soon, wish all you guys the best down under !

Maybe if Australia changed its name to the amazon people might be more inclined to help. The world lost its mind over those fires but seem to forget your fites were burning first and bigger. I'm guessing you guys will have a new pm soon from the coverage I've seen, but the way your government are treating people fighting the fires is awful. I hope all you guys stay safe

Unfortunately mate, we wast billions on foreign aid too, send our Defense forces over to rebuild, but not much ever comes back from these countries except threats... It's about time we started looking after #1..

The backbone of this country are the farmers and truckies who always seem to go the extra mile to help everybody out with hay, food etc

It tends to put things in perspective when you see it like that. I've been my current address for just shy of 26 years and 2019 was the 2nd driest we've had in that time with 559.5mm. 2006 was the lowest with 409.5mm. The average is rumoured to be approx 1300mm per year but ours seems to be between 700 & 900mm. All this explains why it is dry and burns easily. A LOT of the problem is that the Greenies and other sensitive poiltical parties make it hard for the RFS to do backburns and reduce fuel loads in the National parks. They have shut off the parks to 4wders and horse riders etc who used to keep tracks open. Now they are all overgrown. The Australian ABC had a post on their Facebook page from around 2016/17 condeming the RFS for hazard reduction burns and the ensuing loss of wildlife. They have recently taken the post down in view of the loss of wildlife during these fires. Properly funded and executed back burns do minimal damage /destruction. As with most things now days, we are being told how to do stuff by people who have never done it and/or don't even live/visit these areas!
