Good evening,
As I was looking at the instructions for the current project, I realized that today, one year ago, I joined the forum. Since then I have been able to get a few models done. I am pleased with my work and I feel I have come a long way in a short time.
Not because I am so great, but because of the atmosphere of greatness that exists here among my forum comrades. I am very pleased that is the case here. As someone who has nothing but negative associations with "clubs" and the like, I was reticent to join and
figured I would/could lurk forever. I decided to join hoping to be able to participate in a mutually beneficial situation. Now I figured, as a newbie, what could I offer the other members? I decided not to answer that question myself, but to join, do my thing, and
perhaps the question would be answered for me by the other members. To my delight everyone here is very cool and I have even had some of my work garner the esteem of my comrades. Thank you for this from the bottom of my heart. Having an environment
of welcoming and positive relations between members has enabled, and in fact coaxed more out of me than at first I was intending to do for myself. I knew I was going to build models when I started the year, but I certainly had no idea that the Dart, Cadillac, or
2CV Royale would come about. It blows my mind when I see these models on my desk that I made them. I saw an interview with Orson Welles on the (Word Censored By Forum Administrator) Cavett show and when speaking about the making of Citizen Kane, he said he did what he did because he
didn't know he couldn't. "Ignorance, there's no authority in the world like it." He happened to be in a situation where he had a sympathetic cameraman working with him and this man wanted to see where he was going with his ideas. He let him do his thing, instead
of saying "No you can't do that, you can't put the camera there, etc.,etc.," all the stodgy old rules of Hollywood filmmaking. This forum to me, is that kind of environment. The prevailing mindset is "Come on in the water's fine," instead of "Ha, Let's watch this newbie
drown." This really is an amazing forum to be a part of. I have been able to learn and grow within this environment and I feel that while I have been able to make some good models heretofore, I really have some great stuff on the way. Watch out!!
This is the right place for us to do what we do, and I just wanted to say thanks for helping me become a better me.
Cheer guys, here's to 2020.
