I had seen this open, but sealed inside kit sitting in the pile of kits for my Club's raffle and I looked at it, inside and out. Nice kit! I have taken to appreciate Tamiya's kits, even more so over the last couple of years. Easy to build with positive mountings and accurate moldings. Raffle time came and I didn't win anything, but my friend Paul had won a drawing and he selected this kit and he gave it to me. Thank you Paul! He knows about my appreciation of British sports cars and saloons and I didn't even ask for this kit. Since Google Images is my friend, I looked at the many images of Lotus (or is that Loti) Europas and one color stood out...a green that is very simular to the color I choose. Model Master Citrus Green Metallic. I really like how Tamiya packages their kits with everything being bagged and nothing loose in the box. I have yet to see a kit that is not molded correctly by Tamiya. A few pictures of the Lotus color that I am trying to capture. After looking at these pictures, maybe I should use Model Master Lime Ice or Tamiya Candy Lime Pearl over a grey primer instead. Time to get out the plastic spoons! More Lotus to come...

cool. always like the look of the Europa. when I was young there was a bloke down our road that had a black and gold one.it had a badge on the side with dates on .I think it was something to do with f1 champions

I have always liked the Europa's styling, but it is a bit tiny for my build.

Looks like a nice kit and car for that matter. Doesn't look it would take much to convert it into a ute!

Thanks Deano! I doubt it would be much of a Ute. The engine is in the back!

Cool little cars, I got to strip one with a rotten chassis when i started my body shop training. Nothing came apart easy except the body but thats ponly cos the chassis was so rotten it just lifted off with all the mounts still on. I kept some of the badging and still have it somewhere

Thanks Les! They are cool little cars. Small size and light weight means they can go fast with a tiny engine.

I have changed my mind on the paint color. I will use Tamiya TS-52 Candy Lime Green instead of Model Master Citrus Green Metallic. The parts are heading for a bath tomorrow morning. More Lotus to come...

I started on the engine this afternoon. I glued the engine halves together and started some detail painting. I'll leave the transmission unpainted since I'll be handling the engine. I drilled the cylinder heads for plug wires and what I think is the distributor on the side of the engine. More Lotus to come...

Thanks Dennis! I have always had a fondness for British sports cars. To the average person, they look weird. To me, they are awesome!

More work done on the Lotus Twin Cam engine today. I got the plug wires on and the exhaust installed, several other pieces installed and painted the transmission. I also got the front half of the Y shaped backbone chassis done. More Lotus to come...

Thanks Les and hurtz! Les, I had painted the head semi gloss black over the chrome plating with the intent of removing the paint on the ribs. I must have scraped a little to hard as I had gone through the paint and the plating with my fingernail. Out came the Molotow 1mm Liquid Chrome pen and I rechromed the ribs.

I sprayed some primer on the Lotus body and I found a couple of mold lines along the front fenders and the doors to remove. I highlighted the mold lines with a pencil. More Lotus to come...

I got some paint on the main componants this morning. First I reprimed the body and let that dry. I painted the rest of the pody parts with Tamiya TS-52 Candy Lime Green. I painted the interior/chassis pan with Tamiya TS-29 Semi-Gloss Black. I found a dog hair and I removed it leaving several marks behind. I'll let this dry, sand it and repaint it. More Lotus to come...

I finally painted the Lotus with Tamiya TS-52 Candy Lime Green. Now for a light polishing and maybe another coat of paint. I also painted the lower rocker panels with Tamiya TS-30 Silver Leaf. I'll polish these and give them another coat of paint. More Lotus to come..

Thanks leon! I'm fairly happy with the result. Just a light polishing and maybe another coat of paint and the body will be complete.
