Thanks Leon. I have the shrouds on the grill. I'm not too sure why you would reduce the area of radiator that is exposed especially when you send a truck to a tropical climate. All I can assume is that it was intended to make the fan draw air in through the radiator harder? Next up was to alter the bonnet so it represented the set back steer axle. I thought it would be a lot easier to cut out the whole side and replace it rather than shape a piece to fit. I needed adifferent air cleaner from the boxy one that comes in the kit. 1 from the Revell Blue Circle Kenworth was about the right diameter but needed some surgery to look the part. The original is on the left. It is normally mounted vertically but it is horizontal on the Reo. I shortened it up, found 2 new end covers, moved the dust valve to the bottom and found an elbow in the spares box. The clamps straps are tape and the clasp at the bottom is plastic with wire bolt heads. Took a while to get my head back into this build. All I have is reference pictures, no dimensions so once I get the cab and bonnet set I can move onto the tanks, battery boxes then the rearguards.

I filled in the sides of the bonnet but couldn't find the bonnet mounting bits that glue to the back of the grill so that the bonnet tilts. Couldn't even find the numbers on the sprue so no idea what has gone on there. Scratched a couple up out of scrap and then taped the cab and bonnet together with the bonnet pinned in place. Once this was done I was able to glue the guards on in the set back position. Once all this was done, I could cut the guards off at the bonnet/cab line to form quarter guards like on the real unit. Now I'm working on making the lube filter and aircleaner look more authentic.

Thanks gents. With the bonnet and guards cut off and re attached I could start to position the hardware on the cab. I used the kit lube filter as a starting point for the this build. It isn't perfect but pretty close. I sanded the kit brackets off and made new ones that looked closer to the real thing. The two lines at the bottom are alloy tube bent to shape. I made up a mounting plate for the aircleaner with some bolt head detail. I need to shape this side of the bonnet to allow it to clear the aircleaner pipework when the bonnet is tipped. I still need to do the cap for the top of the aircleaner. Don't have anything close enough so might try shaping one out of alloy sheet. I made up the sections that mount in front of each guard. I didn't have enough 1 bar chequer plate to balls 1 up so I made cardboard templates first, pleased I did!!! I have also been able to start on the fuel tanks now I know where the cab mounted sections of the quards sit.

Nice work mate, i like the big "Lazy Susan" thing your working on, thats a cool idea. Cheers mate, it's the turntable out of a microwave oven, 2 actually. The first sits upside down with the wheel bit sat in the groove with a second plate sat right way up on that. It used to be in my paint booth in the shed but things changed and I no longer had the room for the booth so I kept this . It sits on the sheet of glass on my desk. Stable, level and square enough to work off and great for spinning the model around for what ever reason without having to touch it. A bonus when you're clumsy! Easy to move if I need more space. On the side bench that Will uses, we attached the rollers to the bench from underneath and just sit the plate on top.

Slow progress on this. Just at mock up stage. Auslowe fuel tanks and air tanks, white metal air valve, copper wire for plumbing. Battery boxes are kit items with new mounting brackets. The sections if front of the guards on the bonnet are metal chequer plate with model railway brass strip along the front edge. The left side bonnet rubs the airline from the cleaner when I tilt the bonnet so not sure if I should fiddle with it or just leave it alone. I cut a cardboard template out for the rear guards which kinda looked alright so I cut and bent up the metal ones to the measurements I had. Looked ok, all 1 piece so strong but looked short on the truck. I used the full length of the sheet to make them so i had to cut the 2 rear bends off, use the bottom section as the new angled sections and cut 2 new rear vertical pieces.. I cut and bent the original angled sections up as bracing on the underside of the joints. The subframe for the guards is scratch built. The real truck also has a Pintle Hook towbar, not really sure why but perhaps for backing field guns and other bits up onto the trailers? Anyway, there wasn't one in the kit so I scratched this one up. It doesn't work but I don't think it would be too hard to do. Future build perhaps.

Those diamond plates really add a lot to this build Dean. Looks like I've been missing yet another great build so far. Won't make that mistake again.

Thanks gents. More slow progress on this Front bumper and under mounted towing hooks on. Took a few goes but managed to bend up a reasonable sunvisor for it from aluminium sheet. Usde staples for the support brackets. Next up was the exhaust. I used a resin silencer, flexible rubber pipe and an aluminium tip. I just used Evergreen shapes to make new mounting brackets. Made up the jerry can holders for behind the cab. Added an extra air tank and made up the spare wheel mount as well. Made up a new pogo stick. Finally finished the headlight guards. Still not overly thrilled but not bad. Made from 1.5mm x .38mm styrene strip. Was hoping to cut halfway through each strip where the cross/meet to keep it strong and avoid having to cut tiny pieces and then try to glue them in straight. The strip either tore or bent so I ended up having to go down the cut all the pieces road.I made the outer frames first , then put the horizontal cross pieces in then cut the verticals. I made one extra so I had a choice. It will be choosing the best from a bad bunch haha. As usual, the camera does them no favours but I hope by them time they are painted, they will look ok.

Just getting caught up on this, starting to think you didn't even need to start with a kit by all the scratching you've done

Just about there with the build on this one. I needed to widen the track of the front wheels so I found some European type truck dress rims/ hub steps, glued 2 together for each side and onto the brake hub. I made up some lights and guards for the blinkers. Some scrap plastic and brass wire to make a roof hatch. New mirror brackets were made using plastic rod and aluminium rod. I used some aluminium tube and aluminium sheet to make up some new rear light mounts, the plastic ones looked too bulky. Added some airline plugs as well. Primer on. Need to see how it went when it dries, was cold here today. Upside is this doesn't need a gloss finish so should be able to get the colour on as well in this weather.

Ok so as usual flat out getting nowhere, anything that could get in the way has! here's where it's at. Had a fiddle with a little of Vallejo's fuel wash on this tank. Think it'll come up ok. Going to do a bit of weathering on it before final assembly so will need to redo it. I haven't gotten too fancy with the interior, I imagine they were pretty plain to begin with before the army specced them! The dash wasn't the worlds best but behind the windscreen it won't be obvious. The olive drab paint was from a military supplier at the Wagga show years ago. Not sure why but took forever for the paint to dry. Used a different thinner perhaps?? Anyway, starting to come together now.
