Hey guys, I may not be on very much between now and sometime in january. My works new ship is arriving tomorrow so I will be working a lot more hours than usual as its going to be tied up while it gets all its certifications and paperwork sorted out, so I'm going to be making sure members of the public dont come on board. I'm hoping I'll be able to take a couple of model parts with me each night so I can make some progress but that depends on whether i get permission to do so. One bonus is its going to be tied up 10 mins from my house so I can be home much sooner after work, lol.

My postman is going to hate me for sure. I've been contacting some resin casters about vws they used to make in the past with pleasing replies

The ship arrived early this morning. I'll be starting on her at 3 pm and working through until 7am tomorrow. If it wasn't for the little kitten I would still be in my bed

WOW...That is huge Les! And i get to clean it all. I just saw it heading around from the home port to the port in town. I dont think the pic does it justice, when it passed the old boat the size difference was a lot. The old boat has 4 massive v12 turbo (the turbos are the size of my chest and I can fit my head in the inlet) diesels but Not sure about the new one. I'll be having a good looksy at the engines tonight

Not built by IN-CAT is it mate ? I'm not sure, it came from Vietnam. The last one was seacat I think but it was from somewhere else around that part of the world

I didn't know that, but I do know the old one wasn't built in Tassie. Maybe they build them elsewhere too?

That's cool Les. What is it? A ferry?
Judging from the waterline, it is currently unladen.
What is the cargo?

That's cool Les. What is it? A ferry? Judging from the waterline, it is currently unladen. What is the cargo? It can carry 12 semi's and 56 cars or 98 cars. I think the passenger numbers are about 450. It isn't even carrying ballast in the pic. The companies competitor had a thing on the news a few days ago about how they were the greenest, and that by 2021 all their boats would be connected to windmills overnight to save running the generators all night. Our company owner was interviewed as the ferry was arriving and got asked what he thought, "we've done that from the start". But then the other companies subsidy (we get nothing) is so high now they could run empty and still be profitable

Hmmm. Interesting.
Obviously, since I am landlocked, I know nothing about that business. Does this boat run from an island to the mainland over and over, or does it run a route that makes many stops?
With that kind of capacity, I am wondering where all these people are going.

Hmmm. Interesting. Obviously, since I am landlocked, I know nothing about that business. Does this boat run from an island to the mainland over and over, or does it run a route that makes many stops? With that kind of capacity, I am wondering where all these people are going. We run across the pentland firth and back 3 times a day. Now we're past the tourist season its mostly business traffic as everything comes to the islands by boat. There's about 25,000 people on the islands so it surprising how busy it can be but most of the supermarkets have at least one semi everyday except sunday except tesco that has 2 each day. The other company also has a second route form orkney to shetland (islands to the north) and aberdeen (mainland). Until I started on the boat I'd never thought about how much trade the islands actually have so it surprised me. I wouldn't have thought there was enough for 3 big ferries away from the islands (theres also 6 or 7 smaller ferries operated by the council for the actual island group that run every day) and 3 times a week on average we get a small freighter that carries the bigger stuff and heavier stuff. Also theres a cattle boat 3 times a week at this time of year for moving live animals south to be slaughtered as the knackery shut 5 years ago because the local council decided it wasn't worthwhile, so we lost out gold mark for local meat.(it must be born, raised and slaughtered on the islands to get the gold mark) Also during the summer season we get 3 months of near daily 5000+ passenger liners. Now I've written that I'm taken aback how many ships there are, and I havent even touched on all the oil tankers and fishing boats. I suppose that explains why the lifeboats are orkneys favoured non health charity

I hope that the pay reflects the hours you put in! well my vw stash now includes at least 2 of each of the ones that were just too pricey for me before so I'm not complaining, and I think I've found the last porsche i want unless an early fujimi chrome bumper 911 pops up. The next purchases will be more resin vw though
