Thought id join in the fun with this build off, I wanted a proper looking big rig, so i ordered one of these !
After a quick mock up, ive realised that maybe i should have chosen a subject that i know about ..... this is going to need some serious work to lower.....

I think we are all in the same boat mate, "how to lower a model truck" does not come up in too many google searches.
But, that is one tough looking truck mate.

Great choice! I think your best bet for lowering it may be to ignore the body until the chassis is done but keeping the body mounts clear if you can. I zee'd the frame on the bedford and think it might have been the wrong way to do it as getting it to sit level was a proper pita. If your bagging it though, you could just make your own suspension which may be easier than modifying the kit parts

Thanks guys, and Stitch I've been thinking of every way to slam this, including a body drop, scratch suspension, even a new frame... Problem is at the height i want (the floor ! ) all the axles are parallel to the chassis ! I'm thinking of Z'ing the frame, so I can use the standard rear axles, and rebuilding the front suspension. Possibly mounting the front fenders higher up ?
Otherwise it's a wheel change, but I kinda like using most of the stuff that comes with the kit !
And thanks Joe, yes it's good to be back here again .... emotion-11

Thanks guys... I've only mocked bits up so far, nothing glued yet. But I've spent a few hours just looking at the thing trying to work out how to Slam it ! thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon I'm thinking the ONLY way to go is a scratch built front suspension, raise the front wings, raise the motor, then cut the chassis in two, Z the frame, lengthen it, and add scratch built rear fenders.... Why didn't I just enter a box stock build off

have you looked at whats available on kitformservices Martin, they do some parts and theres also modellerresource. Both are aimed more at replica stock but i know kfs have longer rails and suspension parts.

I'm going to try putting the front axle on top of the front springs. I'll post pics if it works. I haven't Z'd a chassis so I'm not sure where you will cut it on the truck, behind the cab? But this wouldn't get the tanks down but if you move the cut forward does the cab and bonnet still line up?

Thanks Stitch, I'm looking at ordering 2 rear fenders, save me some time !
And Deano, yes I'm thinking of cutting the chassis just behind the sleeper, then adding an angled section of new chassis ! The front should be on the floor, while the rear suspension/chassis will be stock height... I'm going to mess about with a photocopy and hopefully I'll show you the idea !

I would try cutting up some spray can lids for the fenders, tamiya are pretty close to the right size and if you use the paint they work out free

Thanks guys... Ok so its a little crude, but heres the plan for the Peterbilt, think it should work as its the only way i can get it on the floor ! two-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon Front tyres will be low profile, and i forgot to add the rear fenders which i`ll make too ! As for paint, something loud, possibly with graphics thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon

Wow, that does get it down!It looks like you might even be able to sneak the tailshaft through without needing another uni. Just make sure you strengthen the z joints as these can get front end heavy and if you pick it up from the back......... guess how I know face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak

Thanks guys ! Well i have been busy on this, just a lot of trial and error at the mo ! Found some toy wheels with ultra low rubber, so ive used the back half of the rims, with the chrome truck cap modified to fit over it ! Looked a little too small but by painting the outside of the rim black it looks more in proportion ! The wheels are actually bigger than the trucks, just on low profiles... Im determined to get this thing low at the front, so i removed all the kit suspension, cut out the oil pan, notched the chassis, and im adding air bags ! Quick mock up pics show you the idea, i think the diesel tanks should lay on the floor.... CooooL two-thumbs-up-smiley-emoticon

Been a bit busy so not a huge update, but the chassis is in two, i finally made the Cut ! Front suspension is still in the works, trying to find room for airbags etc... But heres a mock up with the chassis in place, might stretch it a little more than this, around 2 inches in total i reckon . thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon But im liking the look, glad its a 3 month build Ive still got a way to go ! sCh_reader_zps810724fe
