Ok everybody. I’ve got my next aircraft lined up and ready to put on the bench next to my other couple of builds that are going on. This one is a bit of a different style bird than most folks are used to seeing. The Blohm & Voss BV-141 derived from the need for a Reconnaissance / Light Bomber role for the Luftwaffe in 1938. The idea behind this highly unusual aircraft was to allow an unobstructed view to any area being surveyed from the R/H side of the aircraft. The aircraft never saw operational service due to the German Air Ministry’s disapproval of it’s odd appearance and being underpowered despite its power plant being that of one of Germany’s “Top Dog” fighters, the Fw-190A series. Having a top speed of 229 mph was not enough to impress the Ministry and the project was cancelled in favor of the much nimbler and sleek conventionally designed twin engine Fw-189 reconnaissance aircraft. Several 1/48 scale kits have been released to replicate this unusual aircraft in scale but IMO (as well as the general modeling community) this seems to be the best kit in which to do that with. The kit I’ll be going with will be Hobby Boss’s release of the BV-141B. I’ve been wanting to build this aircraft for about 15 years and now’s my chance.

Wow, that sure is unusual. Funky rear stabilizer too. Very interesting. I am sure you will smash it! (Figuratively speaking that is...)

Thanks fellas! I guess that’s why I’ve been so adamant about building this aircraft. Interesting to say the least.

A quick overview of the kit if anybody is curious: Of course we have the boxing: Sprue Shots: ( all the glass is tucked away in foam packed sleeves. I'll wait to show you those later when I'm ready to take them out). All in all the plastic looks pretty clean with minimal work to prep. This is hell and gone from the Hi PM kit that I had years ago. Hi-PM had the glass enclosure in side halves which was very intimidating. Hobby Boss got it right with a top and bottom split. Needless to say ...the PM kit is GONE from my stash. The Hobby Boss version has a fairly low parts count for as big of a birdie as this one is. About the only difficulties I've read about so far is the prop that has the blades facing the wrong way which either Squadron has the corrected prop for this OR a prop from an Eduard Fw190 can be used. The other mistake is the exhaust ring is not properly positioned ...nothing that a little surgery won't fix. Instruction Sheet which shows a pretty straightforward build: Decals ( I'm sort of worried about the botches on the underside crosses in the black areas but may be able to hide it somewhat with some weathering) and the "goodies". The interior on this bird is the showcase so I'm glad I picked this PE set up in order to take advantage of all that's on display in there. The mask.....a TRUE Godsend. There's no way I'd tackle this build without it. No...…..WAY.

Just looking at the mask is intimidating enough for me, i wouldn't know where to start

Agreed. That canopy looks like a handful.
I am sure you will nail it Joe.
It must be a small plane in real life. On your board it looks about 11 inches long in 1/48.
I am trying to imagine it, because my B-52 is 11 inches long in 1/175.
Looking forward to this progressing.
Carry on sir....
