Hi all well some of you will know with the move I have a new job and that job is working at a company which restores classic porsches at the moment there are 16 different porches in our workshop worth 27 mill I'm sooo loving the 904 and would love to build one. I've never done a scratch built car ( loads of ships but never a car) I have no idea where to start but the average turn over is 3 months so plenty of time for measurements I still have to get a modelling area but negotiations are going well. Any suggestions where to start with making the body.

I would take a block of wood/box thats smaller than the final body and cover it in a good amount of cheap car body filler to get it close, then use the fine filler (top stop gold is good) for the final shaping to take a mold from so you can make it out of fibreglass. That way you can make extra copies of the doors, boot and bonnet (i assume you'll be opening them) which will make that bit easier. There's bound to be someone at your new job (lucky bugger, if you're allowed I would love to see some pics) that could advise on that bit better than I can.

I think you'd have to start with some sort of chassis to get the wheel base right because that would be four fixed points so you could then work out the distances to rear of front guard, B pillar, roof height etc from axle centres, perhaps, maybe???
