I am currently on a British motor vehicle kick and this kit was gifted to me by the Co-Treasurer of my Club since he knew of my fondness for British cars. This is the Monogram MG-TC in 1/24 scale and the copyright on the kit is 1982, so it is an old kit. I plan on building it box stock and in the same colors as the Tamiya Morgan 4/4 I built last year...Tamiya British Green with Model Master Dark Red seats. I find this amazing especially since an MG-TC was restored on the TV series, For The Love Of Cars, hosted by Philip Glenister and Ant Anstead (pre-Wheeler Dealer days).  My paint for the body is Tamiya TS-9 British Green.   More to come... |

Les, I am limited as to how much detail I can add for this Club project. Right now it is limited to the interior, so I'll add embossing powder for the interior floor, but that may be about it. Everything else will be paint detailing.
Deano, the wire wheels spokes seem thick to me. Definitely not like a Tamiya kit with its fine engraving. Plus they are chrome plated and all pictures of a MG-TC seem to have a steel or aluminium spoke.

I determined which engine parts would need to be stripped and tossed them in a container with bleach.  The wheels were chrome plated and my research indicates the wheels were aluminium colored. The wheels went into the bleach.   More to come... |

One of the things that stands out on the MG-TC is the slats color on the grille. The slats are painted the interior color, but how do I paint the slats? A brush is out of the question as it'll leave brush marks. I choose to mask the grille and expose the slats.  I covered the entire grille with a piece of painters tape and I burnished it down.  Using a sharp hobby knife, I traced and then cut out the tape over the grille slats.  Now, all I have to do is decide on the color to paint the slats with. More to come... |

I got the chassis, suspension and the exhaust system detailed.   No. This is not some sort of three wheel trike. It's the wheels and tires assembled together The instructions said to assemble the wheel halves together and stretch the tires over the wheels. That whole process seemed wonky and I sandwiched the tires between the wheels and clamped them together.  More to come... |

With the wheels and tires all assembled, I slipped them onto the axles.  A mockup with the body, hood and front grille. So far, so good!  I painted a few parts this afternoon. The up top, boot, interior and floor pan and the spare tire holder.  More to come... |

Nice work. Sorry I didn't see this earlier. My best friend owns the largest independent MG shop in Wisconsin and I am crew chief on their race cars. So I see, and test drive, a lot of various MG's. That engine color is too red. It needs to be darkened, almost maroon. The very tops of the carbs and the valve cover nuts should be brass.

Thanks wisdonm! At this point, the engine is assembled and mounted in the chassis and I can't remove and repaint it. To me the color is a little too red, but not worth repainting. I have had this discussion with several of my Club members where different people see different shades of color. Some see light, some see bright and some see dark. If I had painted the block a maroon, someone would tell me that the color is too dark!   I do appreciate your reply, but the engine is done. |

Nice, you look to have the green spot on too, most british racing greens are far too green, but yours doesn't.

A Play Date yesterday at Barry's house with Paul, Pat, and myself gave me a chance to use Barry's excellent paintbooth and put another two coats of Tamiya TS-9 British Green on the MG. I was able to cover all the thin spots that the paint had drained away from and to deepen the color. I'll let this dry for a day or two before I polish the paint. At this point I think I'll avoid using any clearcoat since the paint has a nice gloss and the clearcoat will make the MG-TC too shiny!    More MG-TC to come... |
