I have one car that I pretty much refuse to touch (outside of the repairs that I've done to it and to get rid of that stupid wing that it had) which is my MPC 1974 Pro Street Barracuda that I built when I was around 16 years old. I've kept it this way to remind myself, my son and others that we all start somewhere. One day I'd really like to acquire another one of these kits and have another "go" at it just for fun's sake.
The kit:
This one resides in my display case after spending 25+ years in mine and my brothers old room at my parents house. Being in its own display case for all those years helped to keep it intact despite all the heat back in that room from being shut off from the rest of the house.
Here's after a couple of repairs and given the proper glamour shot treatment:

I can see you being proud of that as a 15 year old. It's pretty good.
Having said that, I would sure like to see you have a go now.
Like you said, I think it is a good idea to leave that one as it is for the reasons you stated, and I think it would be great
if you found another one to show a newbie/veteran comparison.

Thats pretty cool. I too would like to see your updated version, you could pretty much start with any similar kit since i knmow you'd end up changing it all anyway

That was one of those kits i always saw in the shop, and always wondered WTF ? ! and never brought it... but that is nice work mate, a simple removal of the wing makes a difference.

Thanks fellas! Dale you couldn't have said it better. I was able to see past the wing after I installed it. What was I thinking?? For a long time after the build the front tires stuck way too far outside of the fenders but I corrected that not too long ago because it was really bugging me so that's one thing I had to fix. Way cool Joe. I agree that keeping a track of where it all started is a good thing. I've rebuilt a few of mine but still have some old favorites. Nice mods.

I've broke it out to show my son a couple of times when he asks me questions about my modeling these days. He gets to see that ol' dad didn't start out as perfect as he thinks.
