Well that was a mistake, I've had so much abuse posting this, thing is I put it on for free to a good home and as soon as people found out how big it was no one wanted it. I've been accused of bragging about destroying a model, told I should be ashamed of myself. In our new house our biggest room is 12feet by 14 feet where do I put 7 foot 4 inch model. Wish there was a function to delete a post. At least I've not had abuse on here. Probably academic anyway can't see anyway of finding modelling space in our new house.

If you ask the admin on the sites where you have gotten abused they will be able to delete the threads for you.

Ken, I don't know what saddens me more - the pain you must have felt destroying such a creation, or that there are a$$wipes out there who feel they are entitled to cause you further distress by criticising your choice to do so. Your property, your decision, end of. If I were in the same position, I'd probably do something similar; except I have access to several secluded flooded quarries (some of which are already the resting place of boats I built in my youth) and I'd video it's fiery demise. Oh, and maybe put a pyrotechnic scuttling charge low in the hull for when the flames get that far down. That's probably illegal now, perhaps was last time I did it; but I've got it in writing I'm strange in the brain so I could plead the balance of my mind was exactly what it normally is... That said, about a year ago a friend got the Viking Funeral he wanted, his ashes launched out onto a lake in a blazing model Long Ship. I had nothing to do with that fortunately, or I might have mixed some Pyrodex into his dust to make sure he was properly scattered; I know he would have liked that, but his family maybe not so much...
When it comes down to it, we build for our own satisfaction: the internet age means simply that the group of like-minded friends to whom we would once have shown our newest creation has gone worldwide. What happens after that doesn't matter, whether it is carefully preserved (at least for a while), sold, given away, reconfigured or broken for spares is irrelevant. A friend of mine goes down two paths in parallel, long term projects which usually end up in a glass case, and kits built in a straightforward manner (albeit to a very high standard) which he then photographs and subsequently gives to the local kids as playthings. As a current non-builder I can't say "Where there's a will there's a way" with even an ounce of credibility, but I sincerely hope you find some way of exercising your creative talents (which are considerable) in some way. What I can confirm as a current non-builder is that you will always have a home here whether or not you are active in the hobby.
Best Wishes,
M
