The word of the day is decals! Decals for the dash, gauges, interior and air cleaner. More Boss 302 to come...

One of the things that I hate doing on model cars is painting Magnum 500 wheels since I usually make a mess out of them. Using my magnifier and a steady hand, the wheels were painted, decaled and installed on the chassis. While I was doing this, the engine popped out of the chassis and I had to reinstall it. More Boss 302 to come...

Absolutely beautiful! I just finished building one! The only criticism I have with this kit is that while the decals appear to be black and the instructions specify to paint the hood satin black, the decals are actually a dark argent silver and they will look awful on the completed model! I removed the kit supplied hood edges with outlining pin strips and repainted the blacked out portion larger and just left off the pin strip which I think looks better... check out Hpi guys review on you tube and you’ll see what I mean. Otherwise, a great kit!

Thanks for the comments, ak! I saw the HPIguys review of the '69 Boss 302 some time ago and I need to watch it again to refresh my memory. The decal stripes do look a little black, but not completely black. Maybe once they have been glossed over by clear they might match the flat black hood better. I don't know at this point other htan I have to repaint my hood because of a paint run. I painted the body and hood a few days ago and they are still sitting in the paintbooth and I haven't really looked them over since then.

A buddy of mine had one of these in high school. Yellow and black. Such a good looking car. Glad to see you building this one. Definitely watching.

I picked up a bottle of 91% Alcohol at the drug store and poured some into a container and put the Mustang hood in it. After a few days, I scrapped the edge of it with a pair of tweezers and the paint run was starting to come off. The rest of the paint should be easy to come off later. A mockup to show you where I am at with this build. More Boss 302 to come...

I took the hood out of the 91% alcohol and washed it good. It looked more like a hood off of a wreck in a bone yard. The last picture is after five minutes of sanding with 150 grit sandpaper. More sanding, a good bath and then primer and paint...again! More Boss 302 to come...

Coming along Mike. Looking good. A guy in high school had a 69 Mach 1. Had a Led Zeppelin tapestry for a headliner. Never forget that. Seeing this model reminded me of that. Carry on sir....

Thanks Mark! This kit has gone on the back burner for a little bit. Too many projects on the bench right now. My fault!

Lookin' good so far Mike.
I had a 351W out of a 69 Mach 1 that I used in two different '67 Mustangs that I had. That....was a lot of fun.

Sounds like you got a lot of use out of that engine. Good job!

Thing was a screamer. 6500 rpm redline and she pulled HARD.

Well, this one is heading back to the bench to be finished. I've been thinking about this for a couple of weeks and I do need to get this one done and off the "To-do List".

I spent a few minutes on the Boss 302 tonight. I added the lights and turn signals, stanchions for the rear spoiler and I masked the rear panel for some flat black paint. More Boss 302 to come...

Thanks Deano! I don't like having unloved subjects cluttering up the bench. I had to get this one off the table!
