This build has come about due to a lack of forethought on another build that I am working on - basically I didn't check the size of the wheels face%20in%20palm_zpsmit8xdak and couldn't fit them under the new cab. So, what to do? While I was going through stuff looking for a set of correct wheels, I found a few bits and pieces that were either badly cast, left over from other builds or I just couldn't see myself using and was going to chuck them out. I had been talking to Dee Cee about a few things when this months theme whispered to me and I thought lets see what I can cobble together. This is going to more of a Fury Road kind of build than MM 1 or 2. I am basing the build on the assumption that they had a heap of stuff and no actual vehicle to start with so they used what was at hand. With this being only a month long build, I'm going to have to pull my finger out and get stuck in but this theme should help. For anyone who follows I'd thought I might post the progress in build sessions. Session 1. So these are the core bits that I think I might need, some might not get used it will depend on how stuff comes together. So this is the direction that this is going to go - hopefully! Bonnet and front cab are Kenworth from the Blue Circle cement kit and the rear cab is an old Ertl International Transtar. I I beam chassis with C section cross members tacked in place until I see where the engine needs to sit. Shown upside I think with the rear crossmember from another kit. I had to join the I beam so I put the chequer plate braces on to make it look like odds and ends where used. Going to use an old White Road Boss grill but not like this. Backing plate in the front of the bonnet for the new grill. Session 2. Time to get some running gear underway. The rear diff (yellow) is a resin diff for a Scania, the suspension is from an Italeri trailer kit and totally wrong for a truck but beggars can't be choosers. I had to make up the white side pieces on the rear spring hangers and shape the axle to fit. I also added the stiffening bar between the rear hangers. The front end uses resin springs and a diff from the Italeri Black Thunder kit. The springs are pretty twisted but hopefully if noticed will add to the 'feel'. I had to cut a section out of the axle housing on each side of the diff to get the u bolts to line up a bit better. Once that was done, I added blocks between the hangers and the chassis so the axle centre was at the same height as the rear. These things are from the AMT low loader trailer kit, some sort of electrical transformer I think. I hope to use these to give the truck a purpose. The insert in this end is actually the cable reel off the same trailer but I just put a cap on the inside end and sanded it to fit, 'tank' done! So here it is at the first mock up stage. Still unsure exactly where I'm heading with this but it's heading in the right direction I think thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon I%20dunno_zpsgjbxiscc Rear wheels will be duals.

This is going to be fun! You've certainly nailed the "Fury Road" vibe with the multiple stacked bodies. The polished bare metal/silver paint finish preferred in the movie by the Warboys for their rides might come in handy if the build becomes pushed for time.

Thanks for the interest guys! It is nice to be able to just put stuff on it and not worry about it being factory correct etc. I'm still a little stalled on paint colours with the silver/bare metal look in mind, I think the real bonnet is fibreglass. Perhaps matt black with some bits in 'original' colours, primer grey maybe? I hope to make it look like it gets driven hard and used to remind smaller vehicles of the natural pecking order so some damage might be needed.

Session 3. Thanks for the interest gents, any suggestions are welcome. I found an engine for this, a V8 Mack motor from the DM800 I think. The front belt drive assembly is from a 1950 Krupp Titan kit, I was hoping to use it on another build but had to pull it off to get the engine under the cab but I thought it looked the part here. Some repairs are still needed on this. The rear engine mount just behind the bellhousing is a rear chassis crossmember rolled over and shaped to fit. The front engine mount came from the same spares box. I'm not sure on the origins of the radiator. The Italeri one I was going to use wouldn't fit but this one did, just had to swap the fan out to suit. Next problem was to come up with a transfer case for the 4wd set up, the one I had was too small so I used a couple of gearboxes instead. I cut them down to these pieces and blanked off the ends. I then used 2 rear axle truck hubs and a pretty poor resin door handle to make the collars for the drive shafts and an access cover. The yellow door handle is where the gearstick was in the grey gearbox. All this worked out pretty well I thought until I looked at how big it was! There was no room for it to be mounted between the gearbox and rear diff and fit in 2 driveshafts so rightly or wrongly I stuck it straight on the back of the gearbox. Downside is the angle from the transfer case to the rear diff. Front driveshaft will be spot on. It's usually the mechanical side that brings me unstuck. Feel free to tell me if this wouldn't work, I'm not changing it but for future reference as they say. Keeping uni's in it may be a struggle with the angle and amount of torque. I did cut off the front of the rear diff and turn it upside down so the drive shaft came into the diff higher up to help reduce the angle. I'll put a pic up off the angles when I get the drive shafts sorted. Cab and bonnet mounts next( I think!)

The whole spirit and flavor of this build is spot on. In the post apocalyptic realm parts would be cobbled together and probably end up looking EXACTLY like your model. I think you're doing a bang up job. Imagination is really flying. "Out of the box thinking" for sure. Love it. Carry on sir....

I think I worry about the 'correctness' of stuff too much when the whole thing is hypothetical at best but I do enjoy this whole 'why the hell not?' idea. The only trouble is, if you can call it that, is that it creates a whole new direction of thought and ideas on top of those builds I already want to do - what to do next!!

Session 4. Time to sort out the drive shafts before getting too far ahead of myself. I started with the rear one. Started off with two of these, no idea what they are from. Cut 1 end off and took the uni out of it to leave just the yoke. The remaining uni had little pins on it so I just drilled the yoke section and then eased it on over the pins. I didn't glue it so it does actually kind of work.Repeat for the other end and install a couple of pins to locate it into the transfer case and diff and this is what you get. Yeah, it's short and sharp alright but it's in! The front was a whole lot easier. I just cut an overlength one down to about 15mm short, drilled both pieces and added a slip joint. I haven't glued this either as I can compress the shaft over the slip section and extend it back out to lock both ends once the engine is in.

Session 5. Thanks Gents, by the time it's painted and fuel tanks etc go on it shouldn't be too noticeable. Cab mounts were next on the list, just done with scrap plastic. The front mounts are on the bottom of the firewall insert so I had to do my mods to the interior tub first. First to go is what represents the curtain between the cab and the sleeper in the back wall and the seat base on the rhs as you see it. The front cab mounts went on the outside of the chassis and the rear mount for the front cab across the chassis. It took a little fiddling but I finally got it all lined up. I had to extend the front pegs a little to clear the back of the engine. I had to take the rear mounted turbo off to get the cab on so I'll have to find a new home on top for it, maybe 2 if I have the time. Time for the mount for the rear cab. The two are 'welded'together at the join but I needed something for the back. I also wanted to pay homage to the Interceptor so I'm going with the twin rear tanks using 2 of these. Unfortunately I can't get them in lengthwise without cutting a lot out of the sides of the rear cab so I've gone across the chassis. All the brackets and tanks come from the step deck trailer kit. I still have to add some pipework and stuff but you can see where it's heading. Lined up to mark out how much to cut out of the back wall. And this is it roughly in place. I made up a low subframe to go under the tanks from C section. I had to take about 15mm out of the tank length to get them to fit in so I cut out the section that had the holes in it to reduce the need to find a use for them, there are enough in the end cap! I'll use these holes to run some pipework for fuel, weapons and whatever else comes to mind. The bonnet mounts were pretty simple, I just used some small tube cut into sections glued to the inside of the grill and front cross member and then slide a fine rod through as the pin with some room for sideways adjustment if needed. I still have to do the rear cab mount on the back cab but needed all this in place to see what room I had left, not sure how to solve it yet. thinking-hard-smiley-emoticon

Session 6 This was basically finishing off from session 5. The rear cab mount is just an airbag set on a section of C channel. The white bit is an old truck seat base that I hope to use as a weapon base. The expanded mesh is a sheet I had that looked too over scale to use where it is fully visible but should be fine here. The rung ladder is made from cut down handrails from an Italeri accessories pack. A short piece if C section as the mating surface for the airbag. So this is where the weapon will come from the base on the tank up through the roof ( if I've measured correctly!!) Why have 1 weapon port when you can have 2? And here we have the main weapon. I thought I was on the way to a pretty fair flame thrower when the Mrs asked why does it have a ray gun? Now I'm not sure about it. Will finish it as I imagined it and see what you guys think. Found this grill whilst searching for other bits and thought it was too good not to use but this was the only window it would fit so I cut the panel out to open the window.

Session 7. Back to the chassis and running gear. The front end looked pretty flimsy and needed the steering gear. So this is how it looked. I needed to beef up the axle and address the 4wd steering some how but didn't have the time or skill to build a proper 'ball and socket' type arrangement. I added larger tube to the back half of the wheels to try and give it extra support. I didn't have the next size tube so I built the smaller tube up with tape. I then formed up the socket and slid it over the tape which gave a nice firm fit. I then trimmed off the excess tape. Next came locating pins for the king pin/ steering points. So here they are with all the bits on and some brake boosters. I think this looks more like it with the correct distance between the wheels. I still need to make up the tie rod which will need to bend under the diff, as well as the drag rod back to the Pitman arm up into the steering box. Rear axle/wheels next.

Looking really cool Deano, i think if you add some length, like a barrel to the end of the ray gun.... i mean flame thrower, it will look more like a flame thrower mate .. It's a great idea to weaponize this build.

1. Deano I am enjoying the heck out of this. Love this out of the box thinking. 2. Love the step by step documentation. That is good for all of us. 3. That's a ray gun all day. But why not? I'd rather have a ray gun than a flame thrower. Did you ever see the damage a Romulan disruptor could do? And it's lighter too. Carry on sir....this is great stuff.

Thanks Dale and Mark. Already chewing fast but going going to need to step it up a gear to finish on time. Scratch built some steering linkages and got that sorted. Found some old Kenworth aircleaners from the K100 cabover that I used on the tow truck build. For this build there was no way I could mount them on the bonnet sides as per usual so on the chassis they went complete with resin bends. What I really really wanted to do was run the pipe work through the headlight holes in the second cab but I just couldn't make it fit quickly and easily, not that this was much better! Fuel tanks were next. I had to rethink these as well because the aircleaners came further forward than I hoped to clear the back wheels so these old Mack tanks went on. I had some big square ones lined up but these will do. Homemade tank brackets, bit rough but it seems to fit the brief. Snuck this one on the rear for the flame thrower. Just flipped it so the step depth could be used to clear the tow point. Time for some protection. Been bogged down getting the turbo and exhaust piping and aircleaner piping to the engine under the cab and inside the narrow bonnet but think I have it sorted now.

DUDE !! This is insane !! all the little details you are doing is spot on, right down to a steering linkage !!
There is no way i would have thought of adding that. I like the square tanks too, and can't wait to see those turbo's plumbed up and finished..
