I must be getting lazy in my old age as this is a curbside kit. This is the Italeri Ford Transit Mk2 and the year is unknown so it could be anywhere from 1977-1986. Having watch a TV series on Velocity now Motor Trend called For The Love Of Cars and presented by Philip Glenister and Ant Anstead, I became enamored with the van when Ant restored a Ford Transit Mk1. The Mk2 is a restyling of the Mk1 with no mechanical changes other than a small horsepower boost. I may use this in the Club Challenge for the Classic Plastic Model Exhibition instead of my '61 Impala SS 409. We shall see... My paint will be Tamiya TS-10 French Blue and Tamiya TS-26 Pure White. More to come...

Cool, one of the best vans ever. Handles like a car and space like a van. It was said once that every bank robbery in london used a transit. Have you seen the race style van ford used for promotion?I believe there is someone on one of the other boards I frequent doing a trans kit to make a mk1 like the one on for the love of cars and a pick up version

I seem to recall seeing the race van version once a long while ago, but not recently. The only other versions that I have seen have been on Google Images.

If you haven't seen it before, it might be worth searching for "Guy Martin: The World's Fastest Van?"; it's a later Mark of Transit but could still be of interest.

I found and watched the story of Guy Martin and his Transit van. It looks like a Transit Connect van (smaller and more compact) than the regular full size Transit.

I decided to work on assembling the chassis this afternoon. Fairly easy to put together and some parts didn't need glue. I happen to like the wheels better without the wheel covers, so now I have to find something to use as a wheelcap in the center of the wheel. More to come...

Thanks leon! So far, this is a fairly eeasy kit to build. I'll spend more time on painting the body and interior than anything else.

Last night, I sat down with a circle templet, a mechanical pencil and a piece of sheet styrene and drew out four circles at 9/64 inch diameter. I cut them out with a chisel point knife, glued them to the wheel openings and painted them with Model Master Aluminium Metalizer and a brush. Easy and done! More to come...

Thanks Joe! The wheels still look a little plain. I might have to find some small hex shaped styrene and make some lug nuts. I don't know, we'll see...

Nice work on the center caps Mike.
I wouldn't think you need center caps, unless you want them of course.
As is, it looks like the utilitarian workhorse it is.

Thanks Mark The center of the wheels are open and you can see the ends of the axle inside. I wanted the center caps to cover that.

What a bonehead I am. Sorry.
I meant good job on the center caps and you don't necessarily need the lug nuts. Good grief.

Mark, I would never call you a "bonehead" and there's no need to be sorry. I think the wheels could benefit from some lug nuts, but I would have to make a trip to the hobby store to see if they have any small hex shaped styrene. Just because I happen to think of something doesn't necessarily mean it exists out there. It's okay. We're good!

Check out these, especially the "A" and "B" sets; there are a variety of sizes in both the "Large" and "Small" sets but I haven't been able to ascertain what they are (I have a "B" Small on order as an experiment.

M

I looked at the Meng website and looked closely at Small A set which has the size printed on the sheet...1.4mm. Being not too familiar with metric sizes, I got out my caliphers and set it for millimeters and found that 1.4 mm might do the trick. But, there are no prices that I could see, so I may have to find a substitute. Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I've looked at some more pictures on the net and it appears the "Small" sizes are 0.8, 1.0, and 1.4mm diameter, and the "Large" 1.8 and 2.2mm, but I can't make out the third size (maybe 2.8mm?). They cost about four quid per set in the U.K., I don't know about U.S. stockists and prices.
Cheers,
M

I'll have to look again and figure something out. Thanks for the heads up! Thanks Deano!

I spent some time on the Transit yesterday at my "Play Date" with some of my fellow Club members. I got the seats painted and dash decaled and painted. I glued the floor pan onto the chassis. I need to do some touchups on the seats and on the interior pan. More to come...

Coming along nicely Mike! I've been watching a lot of British crime shows lately and thinking of getting this and doing a police van.

I spent a half hour masking off the body of this Transit. I hope I did a good job when I pull off the tape after the paint dries. More to come...
