Sorry to disappoint you guys, but this one is back in the box for now. All I really wanted to do was strip the paint and see how far the stripping went. I'll pull it back out when I decide I want to repaint it and finish the Chevy.

Remember me?!!! The '61 Impala SS409 was put awayafter I decided to strip the Flame Red paint since it had remained tacky to the touch. It has been out of sight, but not out of my mind. Tonight, I pulled the Impala off the shelf and started sanding and removing red paint from wherever I could...and I still have a long way to go. I am going to use Dupli-Color Light Blue Metallic for the body and interior. My goal is to have matching '61 and '62 Impalas. I have a '63 Impala SS in the stash and that will get the same color paint as the '61 and '62 Impalas. More Impala to come...

Sounds like a neat plan. Hopefully the paint plays along this time.

Thanks Deano! Based on my conversations with a fellow Club member, the problem might be the plastic. If the Dupli-Color Primer and Paint don't dry, this kit goes in the trash. I paid $10 for this kit and have invested more than that in paint and primer and stripping agents. It will be no big loss if if the kit is tossed!

I primered the '61 Impala this morning with Dupli-Color White Sandable Primer and then I tossed everything into the dehydrator for the next 8+ hours. I had painted the wheel cover edges with a red Sharpie and the blue Impalas had black rims. I repainted the edges in black. More Impala to come...

Now that the primer is nice and dry from sitting for a day in the dehydrator, I painted the '61 Impala this morning with Dupli-Color Light Blue Metallic and it looks pretty nice! More Impala to come...

Paint looks great Mike! Did you airbrush it or spray right from the can?

Thanks leon! This was straight from the can with lots of shaking! The paint is nice and dry and hard, too! And, the color will match my '62 Impala that's on the shelf and my '63 Impala when I get around to building that.

Mike, thank you! I'll have to give the Dupli-color a try.

I found that Dupli-Color can be a hot paint, so be sure to put a good coat of primer. I use Dupli-Color White Sandable Primer.

I have completed the interior. I added the steering wheel, passenger grab handle, touchup the shift knob and steering wheel and added a coat of gloss clear to the floor mats. More Impala to come...

This is awesome! Neat to see the molded in floor mats. Don’t think I’ve ever seen that before in any other kit.

Thanks Joe! I really didn't notice the mats until after I had painted the interior floor pan. I can make a set of floor mats like I did for my Jaguar Mk. II Saloon, but there were there so I tried to highlight them with a little gloss clear.

Looks like you did them some justice with the gloss coat Mike. I think I have this kit in the stash and didn't look at the interior tub close enough to notice that they were there.

Thanks Joe! The gloss coat was to bring out the mats a little bit and I guess I succeeded with that!

Thanks Deano! I'm not 100% sure what had happened and there are many explanations for sure. My decision to paint this Impala with Dupli-Color Light Metallic Blue opened a new door for me. Three Chevy Impalas painted the same would be awesome!
