May I suggest switching to Tamiya primer. The cracking may be the result of a conflict of drying times between paints. Tamiya primer dries more quickly and offers compatibility with most color coats.

As I said before, I'll use Model Master Primer and Model Master paint since everything I have heard and discussed about with my fellow Club members say that it is a compatibility problem between primer, paint and the Lindberg plastic. I think the Tamiya primer will just add to my problems. Thank you for your suggestion!

The paint drama sux! I have this happen sometimes on resin parts and they tell me it's the mould release agent doing it andproper cleaning should prevent it. It's meant to only cause 'fish eye' but I get that cracking as well sometimes. I'm not saying that this is your problem at all but it may be more than your paint compatability. I've used the same paint on 2 different models and had 1 crack and the other is good?. Once my resin is sanded, I wash in wax and grease remover, then a paste using Ajax cleansing powder then warm soapy water then rinse. When I paint I add 1 drop of anti silicon drops to the paint. I apologise for wandering off the build thread but paint cock ups suck!!

Yes Deano, painting errors suck! Fresh out of the Easy-Off bath. I got most of the Model Master Flame Red paint off the body. Some sanding and a good coat of Model Master Lacquer White Primer to restart the painting process. Other than what has been explained to me by others in my Club that had issues with older Lindberg plastic and new paint, I am clueless as to why this plastic has cracked. I'll sand all this down and then reprime the surface. More to come...

Sorry to see your having troubles with your paint Mike. I dunno ‘bout all ‘at with plastic and compatibility issues. I’ve painted a few Lindberg bodies and haven’t had any problems as of yet. There’s always a first time but I’m still in the clear with the Tamiya primer. Looking forward to seeing your continued progress and your recovery here bud.

So far, everything has sanded out smoothly. I'll be checking the body over again for any other flaws and will address them as needed. Another wash with Dawn and then primer.

Thanks leon! All it takes is stepping back one step, looking at the situation, asking questions, and starting anew.

I fired up the paint booth this afternoon and shot the Impala with a good coat of Model Master White Lacquer primer. Now for some sanding and then back to the paint booth for some Model Master Flame Red Lacquer. More to come...

I decided to work on the Impala yesterday. I painted the seats of the Impala with Tamiya X-7 Red which a very close match to the Model Master Flame Red that I'll be using for the body and hood. But, the paint seeped under the tape I had used so those will need some cleanup. This afternoon was spent assembliing the chassis which is almost complete. More to come...

I assembled the wheels yesterday and glued the front wheels to the chassis, then I found out that the wheels wobbled! Not sure why I continue to make these wheels want to roll since they should glued solid to prevent the model from falling off the table. I took the wheels apart and glued the wheel backs and the wheel retainers together. No more wobble or ! More to come...

Well, I am becoming more and more frustrated with this build! The paint is a lacquer and it should be fairly dry to the touch. But it isn't. It is still tacky to the touch. I think its going back into the box for a while and I'll build something else for the Classic Plastic Club Challenge. More to come...someday!

That's a shame Mike! Tamiya usually only takes about an hour or so to dry to the touch.

It wasn't Tamiya paint. It was Testors Flame Red Lacquer. Someone, somewhere had mentioned something about the plastic. I wish I could remember, but I can't. I conducted the sniff test and there is no smell, so the paint has gassed out. But, it is still tacky to the touch. Back in the box it goes and I'll build something else for the Club Challenge.

That is a shame, I had a similar problem with an enamel based paint it turned out to be the thinners I used.

Well, just for the heck of it, I checked on the Impala body and guess what? It is still tacky to the touch. I just don't get it. It should be dry by now, but something is still keeping the paint tacky. It is lacquer and it doesn't smell like it is gassing out anymore, so technically it should be dry, but it isn't. It is back in the box and sitting on the shelf until I can come up with a solution.
