I was intending to build a jet aircraft but I had recently gotten this resin transkit from Historic Racing Miniatures. It is a "must have" for my display and it will be painted in Scale Finishes Chevrolet "Saddle Tan" with a saddle interior. Yes, I wanted something a little different from silver with red interior. The doner kit is the Revell/Monogram 1967 Corvette 427 kit and I will be adding "Model Car Garage" photoetch detail set as well as a Kieth Marks decal set for emblems and such. The transkit includes the body, full interior, engine, two sets of wheels, tires, and parts for a race version if you so choose. The only thing it didn't include was window glass so I am hoping the Revell windshield will fit but I know I will have to create window glass for the rear window at least. So far I have cleaned and washed all the parts and have repaired a couple of small flaws in the body and deepened the panel lines around the trim.

Neat project mate, I have some glass from the revell 1/24 coupe spare if its any use to you, though it has a pretty dark tint

Thanks, and Stitchdup, I appreciate the offer but I just ordered the Revell snap kit in 1/25 scale to see if I can make that glass work and as a bonus, the kit has the stock wheel covers.

Making progress.....I painted the body with "Scalefinishes" Saddle Tan, cleared with decanted UPOL, and polished. On another note, I received the Revell snap kit and tried the included glass in the resin body and found that it didn't fit. Never creating glass before, I consulted some forums and online videos, and obtained some .015 clear styrene sheets. After creating a pattern for the rear windows I tried to fit the plastic and found it to be too thick to mold easily and completely to the curves of the window's shape. I will now get something thinner and try again. If anyone has suggestions I am all ears. I also received the Model Car Garage photo-etch and Kieth Marks Decals. (has anyone used these? I had ordered some years ago and was aghast at his new prices; $17.00 for any set listed on his Fotki page PLUS shipping.) I know he has some unique stuff but I that is way too much money. I had initially planned to order 6 various sets until he quoted the price, so I just stuck with the Corvette Scripts. On with the pictures.

You could try warming the clear plastic you have with a hair dryer, it might soften it enough to fit the corners without being too hot and damaging it. I think other methods would be too hot and possibly damage the clear plastic. The plastic from new shirt collars works good and vatious other packaging. I tend to save it for use as glass

Paint looks great Gil! I used the plastic from a battery package for windows on one build and it worked great.

I've never tried molding my own windows before either but I've run into a couple of instances where I should have. Will be watching to see how you handle this hurdle. In the mean time I simply cannot wait to see how the gloss coat is gonna look over that smooth color coat. WOW dude! Freekin' WOW!!!

I know, Joe. I will get the windows figured out and then it will be fairly smooth sailing from there. Btw, the clear coat is already on and polished (which didn't take much effort). My usual method of decanting UPOL synthetic lacquer clear coat, thinning further with automotive lacquer thinner, and spraying with my cheap MASTER trigger gun with a fan nozzle. If you still spray with a round pattern airbrush you should really consider changing to this gun. I think is was around $55.00 and comes with a number of gravity feed cups, a round nozzle as well, and various other parts. I use it exclusively for car painting or large areas on military kits. Also, the UPOL clear I speak of is a mucher cheaper version of Tamiya clear. It comes in a large spray can equal to about 4 cans of Tamiya, and for about the same price. This stuff lays smooth when thinned a bit and is real durable.

There has been progress lately.....I realized late that I needed to get a Revell 1967 coupe kit in order to build this transkit and not the roadster for what weren't initially, such obvious reasons. By obtaining the coupe kit, (not easily found), I solved the "glass problem." The stock glass fits and I was also able to get the full exhaust that wasn't present in the roadster kit. Both 66 kits share most of their parts but I also found later that the coupe kit, which was opened, was missing the front bumper so I will have to try to get another in order to complete a full 67 kit in the future. Speaking of the bumpers, I found that they were in horrible shape as molded. The contained mold depressions and flash and couldn't be installed without stripping repairing and rechroming. I also found that the molded "crossed flags" emblem on the chrome gas cap was actually upside down so I removed it along with the chrome and replaced the emblem with a flag decal from the "Kieth Marks" sheet. The MCG photoetch was used for the iconic hood grills. Additionally, I painted the the base color for the saddle interior with Vallejo "Flat Earth" which I found to be a good match
The new doner kit
updated progress on body
rear
repaired bumpers. I will be spraying these with Molotow chrome
Interior base coated

First off this is some superb progress Gil. Secondly, how is it that things like the flags being upside down and the bumpers that are almost so ate up that it didn’t make sense to chrome them at all? That’s just piss poor QC on Revells part right there. Looks like you’re overcoming those pitfalls though.

Ok, finally got the inerior done. It is mostly resin parts with the exception of the steering wheel and shifter. The door handles were even resin. After basecoating I used different tones to highlight and create shadows on the leather seats especially. I also used some printed instruments I got from a guy on ebay. Not a bad product and he makes them for many different cars. These work great for the older kits that don't include decals for them. Everything else was hand painted. I also finished the wheels and tires which are also resin. I used a Molotow pen for the chrome center caps.

A little more progress. I got the engine constructed and partially plumbed. This was all resin with the exception of the fan clutch and fuel pump. Also pictured is a scratchbuilt brake master cylinder. The one in the doner kit was way wrong. Chassis is almost completed so pictures will be forthcoming, but the end is near. And the picture of the scratch built master cylinder
