Cheers guys. I have a few things on the go at the minute so when this one gets too frustrating I can shift onto something else and cool down ! Anyway these are the guard brackets. I was hoping to fab these up so I could fit the mounts to the chassis and then get some paint on the chassis but the heat swage pins are too long and won't slide over the wheels so I'll have to paint and finish the guards so I can set them over the wheels I%20dunno_zpsgjbxiscc I tried a few Meng bolts for detail. Hopefully the pins and superglue will hold the guards on this time.

Those look great!
Neat stuff. Detailing like that really sets off a build.
Carry on sir....

The time came to drag this MF back out of the drawer and see if I can get it across the line. Started by pulling the front plate off and lifting the low side up. There is less than half a millimeter in it when its up on its wheels but it's obviously enough. It now looks level with the black cross member behind it but maybe not so much with the axle but the front stub axles are the same height down when measured with a straight edge across the chassis. . So, moving on, brackets for the trim under the sleeper were sorted by trial and error. The sunvisor goes on and the air ram brackets go on after. All nicely cast pieces in either white metal or resin but let down by the instructions. The written instructions say assemble air cleaner assembly, that's it. It doesn't say which way up the brackets go and the accompanying photos are blurry and show it when all the pieces were resin so it's hard to distinguish what is actually where. Photos I've found on line are overall shots, not detail specific but I think as long as it looks right in the end it should be ok.

Wow. I wasn't aware of white metal goodies in the aftermarket.
That's cool that someone is doing that. Should really set the build off.
Mostly your ingenuity, but helped along by the cool parts.
Carry on sir....

It's always a true pleasure to peek in on your threads and see the kind of work that you put into your builds Dean. Nice lookin' goodies you've got there.

Slow progress on this, every time I do a bit on it the Bulldog bites me so it goes away for a while then comes back out til I get bit again so away it goes again. I don't think I'm alone here! Anyway, paint on the chassis and engine in, The front wheels are on , the drives and guards just sitting there. The metal work on the boxes is supplied with the transkit, just have to put the creases in the front lid. I went with the V8 Mack motor in this as per the original truck. The transkit instructions show the big 6 cylinder Cummins which in hindsight would have been easier. The V8 looked ok sat in loose but when it came time to line it all up, nothing lined up. It had to moved as far forward as possible to allow the rear of the header pipes to fit past the cab mounts. This meant the front crossmember and mounting point didn't line up, the filters force it to sit lower in the chassis so the fan and hub don't line up properly and the header pipes still foul the cab mounts. Bonnet definitely staying down. Used a flat white coat under 2 coats of yellow to help keep it bright. And then along came the paint gremlins. Being resin, I scrubbed this in wax and grease remover, soapy wash, scrubbed it with a paste made up of Ajax powder, soapy wash then clean water rinse. The primer went on nicely but found the pinholes. Waited a week for the primer to dry then hit it with the spray filler. The cab roof has had 2 coats as the holes remain and the rear of the cab went "orange peely". Any thoughts guys? Had no trouble in the past following this process, same everything. Maybe keep sanding a nd spraying filler?? Any help appreciated.

This is why i hate resin bodies, but i have found CA Superglue will fill those holes, but block it back again first.

Thanks guys. Went around to see the guys who used to own this, they gave me a few pictures for reference, nothing close up but info none the less. They did happen to have a few litres of touch up paint stashed of which they were kind enough to donate 100ml. The actual colour is called either regal or royal blue. I"ll spray some on a spoon and get a pic of it in the sun, it has a subtle fleck and even a hint of green in the right light. Anyway, round 8 of filling holes I think but it is getting there. The bonnet is just about there, the rest not so much but...... Have got a few more items onto the chassis. I'm not sure what is going on with the tanks, the smaller ones appear darker than the front even though it's the same conduit, painted same day, same paints, same clear coat??? None of them are as shiny/aluminium looking as I hoped for but they kinda look like some of the pics before they got their semi regular polish. It's nice to have this moving again.

Top work with that chassis mate, it all looks great. ( i have the same problem with the silver on my 1:1 ute, 1 door looks different, even though it was all painted in long strokes, the whole side of it in one run.... they say silver is a (Word Censored By Forum Administrator) color to use, and i agree. ).

I'm tending to agree, there has to be a product that's easy to use but also hardwearing, Alclad doesn't like being handled. Shame about the ute, that just sux. I'm going to live with this, what you going to do about the ute? If you've had enough of it and just want it out of your sight...

I will just use it as an excuse to respray the whole thing mate, i'm actually bored with the roof paint and want to do something different and also paint the hard cover to match. Thinking silver/black line work ( think black/white tattoo), with some candy red highlights. But, who knows, i have been known to change my mind at the last minute.

Really glad to see this one busted back out Dean. This resin body sure is giving you a run for your money but looks like you're pulling through it all ok.

Yeah it's slowly coming together. Had a fiddle with some interior colours. No, I don't think that they are even close to the original truck, I didn't even ask about it. By the time the big mirrors go on and the windows go in, no ones really going to see much anyway.

Good to see some progress on it. I hear you on color usage sometimes. It can be a little finicky trying to not only choose colors but a scheme as well. I ran into that with my Willy's build. Just didn't know at first how I wanted it all laid out.

Just when this got rolling again I discovered that the P.E tank steps are different profiles, correct tread pattern but the width and depth varies. Hopefully new ones aren't far off. Apart from the that, the power to my drying cupboard has gone missing. I'm allowed to get it fixed but only when the electrician comes out to put the new stove in. It was going to be delivered in a week to 10 days about 6 weeks ago!!!!!

Looks like enamel mate... if it is, i throw it as far away from the model bench as possible, it should strip off easy enough in caustic soda though.
Keep at it mate, don't give up, this is going to be one cool build when it's finished.

Finally got a coat of paint on this that I'm reasonably happy with. The colour isn't perfect but it's close enough to keep this moving forward. I used SMS Midnight Blue. All the auto shops had nothing even close in Holts - blaming covid so I went to the LHS and this one. Put some clear on next and see what happens.
