Aah! Brutus! It's actually built on an 1908 American LaFrance chassis, which means a lot of people (like Jeremy Clarkson) believe it's based on a Fire Engine (something else to do with a Delahaye?). But American LaFrance (like many others) also produced a virtual clone of the Mercedes Simplex chassis (mostly for Touring Cars, but I understand some ended up under Fire Appliances) so I'm not entirely sure...

Why not stay traditional? It's a pity Round 2 haven't re-poped AMTs Allison V-1710 Aero Engine (yet), but I note you are now the proud possessor of a 1:24th Spitfire Vb. The question you have to ask yourself is: "Does this Spitfire really need a Merlin just to sit on a low-loader (when I can just button up the cowlings, or leave the motor compartment empty except for the engine bearers) or would it be better off in, say, a modified Revell 4.5Ltr Blower Bentley or Italeri Rolls-Royce Phantom II?"...

there's another option for that engine though, the beast is something I was thinking of trying to scratch build as the story behing it is pretty cool.
