This is a model of the first truck I was part owner of. When I left school I worked for mum & dad who ran a building supplies yard- sand, bricks, pavers, bagged cement and some general haulage. This is where the F12 build comes from. We also did a bit of earthmoving on the side. Anyway, mum & dad sold the yard and transport side of the business but the new owners didn't want the earthmoving side so we kept it. The Daf was the new truck. It was second hand, low Km's and in pretty good nick for the coin. I'll post a pic of the real thing. So many years ago I built 2 models, 1 each for the old man and myself but they've suffered from old age and poor workmanship and probably some rough handling. As you can see, she's in a pretty sorry state, the other one is just as bad. I built these at a time before I'd heard of Auslowe and after market suppliers. Dad and I cut the molded on roof spoiler off and smoothed out the roof as best we could. The tipper bodies were built from the old bankcard signs that shops used to have on their counters and the tanks and rims are all from a box of bits I was given by a bloke who'd outgrown models. I'm going to repair one back to how it was when I built them. I'm pulling the other one and rebuilding it to a better standard, finishing the pinstriping, better fuel tanks etc etc but I'll be leaving the cab and body as is. This is the second chassis rebuilt and primed with new white metal tank brackets. This will also be getting new rims and tyres. The old one unsuccessfully combine 1:24 tyres and 1:25 rims!

Looking forward to this, I'm pretty sure it has the same chassis as the MAN 6x4 in my stash

Cool story. Nice job so far. I like how you are keeping one like before and blowing out the other one.

Thanks for the interest guys. Here are a couple of pics of the original. Chassis has been resprayed but I still have to repair the exhaust frame. If I have a spare photo etch exhaust, I'll use it so the frame may need to be altered. Engine just got a touch up. Yes, I redid that filter! Engine is refitted back into the chassis. Rims have been painted and hubs are being painted, just sat on here for the picture. Starting to do the missing pinstriping from the bumper and cab.

I've got the chassis back up on it's own wheels. I think the front rims come the Australian Western Star kit and the the back ones from the Italeri accessories kit - the one with the crane in it. They're not perfect but in keeping with the origins of the build. Rear tyres are the original hard plastic, come in 2 pieces ones. Just cleaned the bumper up and put the pinstriping on. The green scroll details aren't correct but give the right effect.

I have finished with the decals on the cab. Still trying to find a clear picture of the company logo to put on but a scroll may have to do. Chasing up some new number for the 3300 on the cab sides - think Dad will have something in his model train stuff. I brushed ona coat of floor polish and gave it a quick buff to seal off the decals, another couple to go. It looks a lot better compared to its 'as built' sister. If I can get them out, I'll try and brighten the headlights with chrome backing.

Thanks Leon. Have the cab back on the chassis, new exhaust gantry and stack. The tipper body just got a touch up with new taillights and brackets and repairs to the tailgate hinges. Apologies for the quality of the last picture. I've made the fuel tanks, just need to be sanded and painted.
